The County of Riverside’s Sheriff’s Office is seeking a Radio Communications Supervisor (IT Supervising Communications Technician) to oversee field staff responsible for planning, installing, testing, maintaining, and repairing public safety communication equipment and remote shelter infrastructure.
The incumbent will work with vendors, schedule maintenance, review invoices, and manage field deployments of critical communications assets; travel to remote sites will be required.

The County of Riverside’s Sheriff’s Office has an opportunity for a Radio Communications Supervisor (IT Supervising Communications Technician). The incumbent will serve as a field supervisor with responsibility for the full scope of supervision and will oversee staff engaged in planning, organizing, installing, programming, testing, maintaining, and repairing public safety communication equipment and remote communication shelter infrastructure.
The incumbent will also work with vendors to schedule maintenance, repairs, and site visits; review and approve invoices for vendor services; and review environmental documentation for PSEC remote sites. Field work is required.
Competitive candidates will have related experience performing the duties described above, including supervisory or lead experience overseeing staff engaged in technically advanced IT-related work. Hands‑on technical experience and experience with P25 radio systems are highly desirable. Public safety communications experience is strongly preferred.

Education: Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in computer science, computer information systems, data processing, information management, or a related field. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on the basis of one year of experience for one year of education.)
Experience: Four years of successful journey-level radio communication experience with two of those years including supervisory or lead duties over staff engaged in technically advanced IT-related work. One year of experience as a Riverside County IT Communications Technician III may substitute for this required experience.
Knowledge of: The principles, methods and techniques used in the course of work for the IT Communications Technician series; principles, methods and techniques of effective supervision; principles, methods and techniques applied to IT devices, applications and systems; principles of organization and administration; and the principles of documentation and recordkeeping, storage and retrieval.
Ability to: Gather and analyze data, reason logically, draw valid conclusions and make appropriate recommendations; resolve technical problems and innovate more efficient use of IT resources; perform systems analysis work and problem solving; effectively supervise subordinates, interpret and follow written and oral instructions; prepare concise reports and documents; establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, customers, other employees, and the public; communicate effectively with people at all organizational levels.
Skill in: Supervising, coordinating, and evaluating the work of assigned personnel; identifying learning needs; and overseeing personnel orientation and training.
License/Certificate: Possession of a valid California Driver's License required.
Physical Requirements: Pushing, pulling, and lifting a variety of technical equipment.
A successful Security Clearance conducted by the Sheriffs' Department is required
Must be able to lift, push, pull various large and equipment up to 50 lbs. in/out of the height of a standard pickup truck. Must be able to lift, push, and pull equipment exceeding 50 lbs. with assistance or other mechanical means; i.e., hand truck, cart, forklift, liftgate, tractor, etc.
Required: The installation and coordination of the installation of communication systems, including voice, radio, microwave, and data in vehicles, remote sites and buildings; use of test equipment to isolate, repair and resolve problems.
Preferred: Assessing customer repair needs based on description of problems; installation and configuration of network hardware and software; use of systems-level maintenance and management tools; troubleshooting and repairing/resolution of equipment malfunction in a multi-user, single platform environment; interpreting customer technology needs.
