Job description

Overview

This position is in the District of Columbia (District), Department of For Hire Vehicles (DFHV), Information Technology Division. The mission of DFHV is to protect the public interest by regulating the vehicle‑for‑hire industry to allow the residents and visitors of the District of Columbia to have safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options.

The incumbent in this position serves as a senior level IT Specialist with responsibilities to plan and administer agency‑wide hardware and software infrastructures, including updating and troubleshooting software issues in cloud computing, desktops, laptops, and mobile systems issued to agency staff.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide technical guidance and support for issues related to employees' computers, phones, peripheral equipment, computer accounts, and computer software.
  • Hardware includes, but is not limited to, laptops running the Windows operating system, Apple iPhones, Samsung Android phones, Dell monitors, and various network printers.
  • Respond in a timely manner to employees' support requests in person, over the phone, or over Microsoft Teams.
  • Create, update, and close ServiceNow tickets for support requests from agency employees.
  • Configure and issue computer and phone equipment for new employees.
  • Track these issuances in the agency's inventory system.
  • Handle employees' on‑ and off‑boarding for IT equipment and system setup.
  • Distribute and collect equipment, ensuring inventory records are accurately maintained.
  • Maintain the agency's employee roster and use the Cayosoft tool to assign and suspend licenses.
  • Coordinate and arrange for the surplus disposition of unneeded equipment.
  • Configure equipment to connect to the wired Ethernet and Wi‑Fi.
  • Configure equipment to connect to various network printers throughout the office.
Qualifications and Education
  • Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
  • OR individuals must have IT‑related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail – is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; Customer Service – works with clients and customers; Oral Communication – expresses information to individuals or groups effectively; Problem Solving – identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information.
  • Specialized experience is experience which is directly related to the position and has equipped the individual with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position.
  • To be creditable, the incumbent must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression.

Working Conditions and Other Details

The work is sedentary and performed in an office setting. Tour of duty: 8:15 AM–4:45 PM. Pay Plan, Series and Grade: CS‑2210‑13. Salary Range: $93,069–$119,916. Promotion Potential: No known promotion potential. Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not covered under a collective bargaining agreement. Position Designation: This position is designated as security‑sensitive, under the guideline of the DC Personnel Manual. Incumbents are subject to enhanced suitability screening pursuant to Chapter 4 of DC personnel regulations, and must successfully pass a criminal background and consumer credit check as a condition of employment and will be subject to periodic criminal background checks for the duration of their tenure.
