Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation seeks an IT Specialist to keep Bald Mountain’s users productive and site technology resilient. Qualifications

  • 3+ years in IT support/operations with customer service focus.
  • Solid experience with Windows client/server, AD, DNS/DHCP, GPO, and endpoint management.
  • Hands-on Cisco switching and fiber; familiarity with virtualization and enterprise storage (Nutanix).

Responsibilities

  • Provide primary North America Service Desk support for Windows, O365, VPN and apps.
  • Administer Windows Server/AD, DNS/DHCP, GPO, and patching.
  • Manage Nutanix clusters and site NAS/SAN; coordinate upgrades.
  • Maintain campus Ethernet, Cisco switching, VLANs, QoS, fiber documentation.
  • Support wireless P2P/PMP backhaul and access links; design inputs and LOS checks.
  • Imaging provisioning for Dell laptops/workstations; manage asset inventory.
  • Travel to comm sites for on-site support; participate in after-hours rotation.
  • Create training guides and knowledge base articles.

Job description

The IT Specialist is a hands‑on, customer‑focused technologist who keeps Bald Mountain’s users productive and our site technology resilient. The IT Specialist will split time between first‑line/second‑line support and have ownership of core systems: Windows servers/Active Directory, IGA (Identity Governance and Administration), Nutanix‑based virtualization and storage, Cisco switching and fiber, point‑to‑point and point‑to‑multipoint wireless links, and Dell client endpoints. The IT Specialist will collaborate with OT and plant teams to support industrial networks and site infrastructure.

Essential Functions
  • 1. Systems analysis techniques and procedures, including consulting with end users, contractors and vendors to determine hardware and software or system functional specifications.
  • 2. Design, documentation, analysis, testing of computer systems or programs, based on site and department specifications.
  • 3. Serve as a primary contact for the North America Service Desk; troubleshoot and resolve incidents/requests for Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 and newer, O365, Teams, Printing, VPN, and core business apps with high first‑time‑fix rates.
  • 4. Provide one‑on‑one and small‑group end‑user training; write how‑to guides and knowledge base articles.
  • 5. Administer Windows Server/AD, DNS/DHCP, GPO, and patching; monitor backups and recovery procedures.
  • 6. Operate Nutanix‑based clusters (compute/storage/virtualization) and site NAS/SAN (Dell/Synology); perform capacity and health checks and coordinate upgrades with vendors.
  • 7. Maintain and administer campus/industrial Ethernet (Cisco) switching, VLANs, QoS, link aggregation, and optics; ensure fiber plant integrity and documentation.
  • 8. Support site point‑to‑point and point‑to‑multipoint wireless systems (backhaul and access), including design inputs, LOS checks, and alignment/validation.
  • 9. Support for Cisco Desk Telephones and Teleconference Systems including Cisco desk telephones and teleconference systems.
  • 10. Partner with Operational and Support Departments on industrial networks, historian/SCADA connectivity, and change management that protects safety and uptime.
  • 11. Own device imaging/provisioning for Dell laptops/workstations; manage asset inventory and lifecycle.
  • 12. Follow site safety and LOTOTO practices; complete required MSHA new‑miner training; adhere to Kinross Americas Safety Guidelines in all work.
  • 13. Contribute to change records and diagrams; keep runbooks, network maps, and rack elevations current.
  • 14. Participate in after‑hours and weekend support rotation; travel to comm sites and facilities around the property as needed (all weather).
  • 15. Work independently and with minimal supervision. Present concerns and potential solution to KNV IT Leadership for decision making as appropriate.
Qualifications and Skill Requirements
  • Advance knowledge in information technology, information systems and/or networking or 3+ years’ experience in a relevant field required.
  • Experience in IT support/operations with demonstrated customer service mindset.
  • Solid skills with Windows client/Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, GPO, and endpoint management; strong troubleshooting across OS/app/network stacks.
  • Hands‑on experience with Cisco switching and fiber (port/VLAN provisioning, SFPs, optics, link testing).
  • Working knowledge of wireless links (P2P/PMP) and fundamentals like RSSI/SNR, alignment, and link budgets.
  • Familiarity with virtualization and enterprise storage (Nutanix preferred) and backup/recovery workflows.
  • Ability to create and deliver clear user training and concise documentation.
  • Valid driver’s license; ability to safely work at heights/rack spaces and lift up to ~50 lbs; willingness to work outdoors in a mine environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive business or personal information.
  • Commitment to ethical conduct and compliance with Kinross data protection and privacy standards.
Preferred Experience
  • Certifications: CompTIA A+/Network+, CCNA, Microsoft MD‑102/Windows, AZ‑104, Nutanix NCP.
  • Experience in OT/industrial networks and CPwE concepts; exposure to SCADA/historian connectivity.
  • Scripting/automation (PowerShell), imaging tools, and endpoint security/patching platforms.
  • Familiar with JDE system for equipment procurement.
