Job summary

Kinross Gold Corporation is seeking an IT Specialist for Bald Mountain mine in Nevada. The role focuses on hands-on end-user support, Windows/AD administration, Nutanix virtualization, storage management, Cisco networking, and industrial network collaboration with OT teams.

You will own imaging, documentation, and on-site field support, including after-hours rotations, in a safety-conscious mining environment.

Qualifications

Bald Mountain is an open-pit mine with a large estimated mineral resource in the largest private mining land package in the U.S. The mine is located in White Pine County, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world, along the southern extension of the prolific Carlin trend. Bald Mountain and the nearby Round Mountain mine make up Kinross' Nevada operations.

Bald Mountain is an important contributor to the economy of northeastern Nevada and maintains a comprehensive environmental strategy including wildlife protection, habitat recovery and education.

Job Summary

The IT Specialist is a hands-on, customer-focused technologist who keeps Bald Mountain’s users productive and our site technology resilient. You'll split time between first-line/second-line support and ownership of core systems: Windows servers/Active Directory, IGA (Identity Governance and Administration), Nutanix-based virtualization and storage, Cisco switching and fiber, point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless links, and Dell client endpoints. You'll also collaborate with OT and plant teams to support industrial networks and site infrastructure.

Essential Functions

End-user support & customer service

• Serve as a primary contact for the North America Service Desk; resolve incidents/requests for Windows 11, Windows Server 2019 and newer, O365, Teams, Printing, VPN, and core business apps with high first-time-fix rates.
• Provide one-on-one and small-group end-user training; write how-to guides and knowledge base articles.

Server/virtualization & storage

• Administer Windows Server/AD, DNS/DHCP, GPO, and patching; monitor backups and recovery procedures.
• Operate Nutanix-based clusters (compute/storage/virtualization) and site NAS/SAN (Dell/Synology); perform capacity and health checks and coordinate upgrades with vendors.

Network / Wireless / Telephony

• Maintain and administer campus/industrial Ethernet (Cisco) switching, VLANs, QoS, link aggregation, and optics; ensure fiber plant integrity and documentation.
• Support site point-to-point and point-to-multipoint wireless systems (backhaul and access), including design inputs, LOS checks, and alignment/validation.
• Support for Cisco Desk Telephones and Teleconference Systems including Cisco desk telephones and teleconference systems.

OT & site technology

• Partner with Operational and Support Departments on industrial networks, historian/SCADA connectivity, and change management that protects safety and uptime.

Lifecycle, documentation & compliance

• Own device imaging/provisioning for Dell laptops/workstations; manage asset inventory and lifecycle.
• Follow site safety and LOTOTO practices; complete required MSHA new-miner training; adhere to Kinross Americas Safety Guidelines in all work.
• Contribute to change records and diagrams; keep runbooks, network maps, and rack elevations current.

On-call & field work

• Participate in after-hours and weekend support rotation; travel to comm sites and facilities around the property as needed (all weather).

Qualifications and Skill Requirements

• 3+ years in IT support/operations with demonstrated customer service mindset.
• Solid skills with Windows client/Server, AD, DNS/DHCP, GPO, and endpoint management; strong troubleshooting across OS/app/network stacks.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco switching and fiber (port/VLAN provisioning, SFPs, optics, link testing).
• Working knowledge of wireless links (P2P/PMP) and fundamentals like RSSI/SNR, alignment, and link budgets.
• Familiarity with virtualization and enterprise storage (Nutanix preferred) and backup/recovery workflows.
• Ability to create and deliver clear user training and concise documentation.
• Valid driver's license; ability to safely work at heights/rack spaces and lift up to ~50 lbs; willingness to work outdoors in a mine environment.
• Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when handling sensitive business or personal information.
• Commitment to ethical conduct and compliance with Kinross data protection and privacy standards.

Preferred Experience

• Certifications: CompTIA A+/Network+, CCNA, Microsoft MD-102/Windows, AZ-104, Nutanix NCP.
• Experience in OT/industrial networks and CPwE concepts; exposure to SCADA/historian connectivity.
• Scripting/automation (PowerShell), imaging tools, and endpoint security/patching platforms.
• Familiar with JDE system for equipment procurement.
