Job summary

Eversource Energy is seeking a senior software engineer to design and implement new systems and features, and to modify and maintain existing systems for business and technology changes. You will engage with IT management, development teams, and vendors to ensure timely delivery of quality software, and drive change and release management within the SDLC.

The role requires 5–8 years of related experience, deep ESRI ArcGIS knowledge, and strong Python coding skills.

  • Minimum 5–8 years of related engineering experience.
  • Advanced to expert knowledge of the work area.
  • Proficient with ESRI ArcGIS and Python in engineering contexts.

Job Description

Design and implement new systems and features, as well as modify and maintain existing systems for adaptation to business and/or technology changes. Engages directly with IT management, development teams, technical delivery teams, and vendors to ensure the successful design, development, and delivery of technology-based solutions. Drive the software change and release management processes, assisting with the overall maturity of the software development lifecycle. Work independently with little supervision. Ensure that software deliverables comply with quality standards and are completed on time. Essential Functions: May manage moderately sized projects or processes. Typically viewed as subject‑matter expert within discipline. Has advanced to expert knowledge of work area. Problems faced are difficult and often complex. Minimal oversight from manager. Coaches, reviews, and delegates work to lower‑level professionals; Mentors lower‑level engineers. Influences others regarding policies, practices, and procedures. Works to achieve day‑to‑day objectives with significant impact on work area. Contributes to the development of goals of the discipline and planning efforts (budgets, operational plans, etc.). May manage moderately sized projects or processes with moderate impact on the achievement of discipline results. Work is performed with minimal oversight. Typically, responsible for coaching, reviewing and delegating work to lower‑level professionals. Provides measurable input to new products, processes, or standards in operational plans to implement business strategies. Problems and issues faced are numerous and undefined, and require detailed information gathering, analysis and investigation to understand the problem. Owns functional area; major portion of application development architecture, such as entire Front‑End or Back‑End Problems are difficult and often complex. Problems typically impact multiple departments or specialties. Problems are typically solved through drawing from prior experience and analysis of issues. Responsible for making moderate to significant improvements of processes, systems or products to enhance performance of work area. Communicates with parties within and outside of own discipline. May have responsibility for communicating with parties external to the organization (e.g., customers, vendors, etc.). Works to influence parties within and outside of the job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices. Contributes to software development processes Knowledge of ESRI / ArcFM GIS Knowledge of ESRI UN Technical Knowledge/Skill/Education/Licenses/Certifications: Technical Knowledge/Skill: Independently scopes and implements larger user stories for their project/team. Handles open‑ended problems & ambiguity well. Makes well‑reasoned software design decisions, identifying potential issues, tradeoffs, risks, and the appropriate level of abstraction. (e.g. research spikes with results captured in ADR's, etc..) Maintains awareness of industry trends and tools. Stays current. Can navigate and make legacy code maintainable. Possesses a deep expertise in one or more areas Elevates testing practices. Contributes to the foundational good of their domain and engineering overall, defining patterns and canonical examples, plus paying down tech debt. Shares their experience and expertise to help others grow. Leads and coaches within their team where possible, trusted with team decisions. Ensures docs exist for all critical systems. Engages outside expertise (training, consultants, professional network) Adds scripts to simplify developer onboarding Automates Shows inclusiveness by respecting different opinions acknowledging expertise and recognizing unconscious biases Python Coding ArcGIS Pro ArcGIS Portal Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience Advanced Degree in a related field Experience: Minimum of 5 to 8 years of related experience Requires advanced to expert knowledge of work area typically obtained through advanced education combined with experience. May have broad knowledge of project management. Works to influence parties within and outside of the job function at an operational level regarding policies, procedures, and practices. Requires substantial knowledge of ES projects, programs, or systems in order to provide enhancements within job area. Licenses & Certifications: N/A Working Conditions: Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required. Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary. Salary is commensurate with your experience. This position is eligible for a potential incentive.
