A Brief Overview

A cross functional role that focuses on capturing and understanding the business requirements at a user story level. Participates and collaborates on an Agile development team. Understands the overall business flows by working with Product Owners, subject matter experts (SMEs) and business teams on a regular basis. Defines improvements to business processes and products. Assists decision-makers in gathering information in order to make informed decisions. Collaborates with Product Owners and Quality Assurance (QA) to identify and write the detailed requirements of test cases. Creates and maintains business and product artifacts.

What will you do?

  1. ANALYSIS AND DESIGN: Along with Agile team Product Owner, performs analyses related to the implementation of new or revised business processes and software solutions to assist various company business and technical teams. Through reading, independent research, regular communication, and individual discussions determines business requirements and processes to create functional and technical specifications of business products. Works with Product Owners to identify and understand proposed development work activities.
  2. USER STORIES: Creates, updates, and maintains user stories for development work within the product. Determines appropriate sizing of user stories and breaks down larger stories as needed. Determines and develops detailed user story acceptance criteria for final validation upon work completion. Communicates with Engineers and QA user story definition and requirements for accuracy and automation needs.
  3. COMMUNICATION: Regularly interacts with business partners of all levels outside of the group and maintains good relationships with them. This includes but is not limited to working with business partners to gather and build requirements, troubleshoot issues, maintain various products, understand software and data-related challenges, and proposing new features or enhancements to improve costs and efficiencies. Communicates technical and business specifications, operational impact, and continuous improvement of our products.
  4. DOCUMENTATION: Creates and maintains business and product artifacts, including requirements, business case documentation, scope documentation, process flows, and business rules and procedures. May create and maintain tutorials and user manuals for Company software applications.
  5. TESTING: Collaborates with Product Owners and QA to identify and write test cases from the user story acceptance criteria to ensure requirements are met. Assists in creation of and may execute test plans for usage in the testing process and regression testing mechanism. Works with the Engineers and QA on bugs and issues. Prepares for demos.

Education

Bachelor's degree in related field or equivalent work experience.

Experience

Three or more years related work experience.

Required Knowledge

  • Knowledge of Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, etc.)
  • Insurance coverages and rating schemes and insurance products
  • Personal computer and related spreadsheet and data manipulation software

Preferred Knowledge

  • Knowledge of property casualty rating and policy coverages and endorsements
  • Experience with business analysis or project management
  • Familiarity with continuous delivery and continuous integration
  • Experience working in application lifecycle management tools such as DevOps, JIRA, or Rally
  • Knowledge of technology testing methods and procedures
  • Company and Department practices and procedures
  • SQL knowledge
