Job summary

The City of Mankato is seeking an IT Intern for a part-time, 20-hour per week position to support technology adoption, research, and end-user training.

The role emphasizes research, process improvement, and documentation; you will work with IT staff on AI adoption, software tools, and cybersecurity awareness.

Regular hours are Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., with evenings/weekends as needed; requires current enrollment in a relevant degree program and a valid Minnesota driver's license.

Qualifications

• Must be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university and actively pursuing a degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Data Science, Communications, Business Administration, Public Administration, or a closely related field.
• Must possess a valid driver's license and be able to drive in the state of Minnesota.

Responsibilities

• Supports evaluation, implementation, operation, and adoption of AI and emerging tech solutions, including research, testing, documentation, and end-user support.
• Develops and documents technology-enabled workflows and process improvements using productivity, collaboration, automation, and business apps.
• Collaborates with IT staff and other departments to support technology adoption and implementation projects.
• Supports initiatives including software research, AI adoption/integration, and cybersecurity awareness/practices.
• Conducts research-based support and data analysis to inform project decisions and assess system performance.
• Researches software tools and AI solutions, documenting findings and communicating effectiveness for evaluation.
• Creates basic reports or visualizations, documents data flows, and maintains process documentation.
• Assists with project tasks, milestones tracking, and documenting next steps/outcomes.
