V Group Inc. in Albany, NY seeks a Lead Solution Architect – IT/OT for a 24‑month contract to shape the TS MO technology program. The role demands strategic IT/OT convergence, secure, resilient architectures, and leadership across teams supporting traffic, transit, and infrastructure systems.

You will design and oversee integrated IT/OT solutions, lead PoCs, collaborate with stakeholders, and ensure regulatory and security standards are met in a complex transportation context.

Qualifications

• 84 months of experience in IT, systems engineering, and OT in an architect or lead systems engineer role.
• 84 months of IT/OT Convergence experience integrating OT with IT (cloud databases, data lakes, analytics).
• 72 months designing secure architectures isolating OT control networks from corporate IT networks.
• 72 months designing and implementing hybrid cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or private clouds) that ingest real-time data.
• 60 months experience with ITS devices (DMS, CCTV, RWIS, vehicle detection).
• 48 months managing a team of solution/data architects and analysts.
• 48 months evaluating and managing hardware/software vendors per policies.

Scope of Project

This candidate will act as Lead Solution Architect for the DOT Transportation Safety Management and Operations (TSMO) Technology Program providing the strategic vision and overarching blueprint for how Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) systems and capabilities will align with and enable the organization's business strategy. responsible for designing, developing, and overseeing the implementation of secure, resilient, and integrated technology solutions that bridge the gap between Information Technology (IT) and Operational Technology (OT) within transportation systems. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the underlying technology infrastructure effectively supports the complex needs of modern transportation management and operations, from traffic control and public transit to logistics and infrastructure monitoring.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

• Architectural Design: Develop high-level and detailed technical architectures for IT/OT converged transportation systems, ensuring scalability, reliability, security, and interoperability.
• Technology Evaluation and Selection: Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate technologies, platforms, and solutions that meet the specific requirements of transportation IT/OT convergence.
• Integration Strategy: Define strategies and blueprints for integrating disparate IT and OT systems, including data flow, communication protocols, and security mechanisms.
• Security Integration: Embed cybersecurity principles and best practices into the architecture from the outset, ensuring that security is a foundational element of the converged environment. This includes designing for network segmentation, access control, and threat detection.
• Performance Optimization: Design solutions that optimize the performance and efficiency of transportation operations through effective data utilization and system integration.
• Stakeholder Collaboration: Work closely with business stakeholders, operational teams, IT professionals, OT engineers, cybersecurity experts, and vendors to understand requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Technical Leadership: Provide technical guidance to project teams throughout the lifecycle of solution development and implementation.
• Proof of Concepts (PoCs) and Prototypes: Lead the development and execution of PoCs and prototypes to validate architectural designs and explore innovative solutions.
• Documentation: Create comprehensive architectural documentation, including diagrams, specifications, and design rationales.
• Standards and Best Practices: Ensure that all designs adhere to relevant industry standards, best practices, and regulatory requirements for transportation and critical infrastructure.
• Future-Proofing: Design solutions that are adaptable to future technological advancements and evolving operational needs

Required Skills

• 84 months of experience in IT, systems engineering, and operational technology specifically in an architect or lead systems engineer role.
• 84 months of experience with IT/OT Convergence that integrates OT systems (like traffic signals) with modern IT systems (cloud databases, data lakes, and enterprise analytics).
• 72 months experience designing secure architectures that isolate sensitive OT control networks from corporate IT networks
• 72 months of experience designing and implementing hybrid cloud architectures (AWS, Azure, or private clouds) that ingest massive streams of real-time data.
• 60 months of experience with Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) devices, including Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), ClosedCircuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Road Weather Information Systems (RWIS), and vehicle detection systems (radar, microwave, loop detectors).
• 48 months of experience managing a team consisting of solution architects, data architects, and/or business/systems analysts
• 48 months of experience evaluating, selecting, and managing hardware and software vendors, ensuring they adhere to Federal and/or State Policies and Standards
