Job summary

Alpaca is seeking an experienced IT Operations Specialist to support a 100% distributed, remote team and safeguard our security posture. You will report to the IT Operations Manager and own end-to-end IT tasks, from onboarding/offboarding to patching and automations.

The role requires 6+ years in IT operations, strong cross-OS expertise, MDM experience, and hands-on cloud/IaC involvement. Based in Eastern Time, you will participate in weekend on-call and collaborate with HR and Security to keep

Qualifications

• 6+ years in IT operations / systems engineering with hands-on ownership of systems
• Proficient across macOS, Windows, and Linux environments
• Experience with at least two MDM solutions (e.g., Jamf, Kandji, Intune)
• Experience with patch management: testing, validation, rollout
• Knowledge of Zero Trust security and networking fundamentals
• Scripting and API work; familiarity with automation tools (e.g., n8n)
• Cloud experience (GCP and/or AWS) and IaC (Terraform)
• Strong communication, collaboration, and fast-paced problem solving
• Based for Eastern Time; available for weekend on-call rotation
• Fluent English (written and verbal) and team-oriented mindset
• Ownership mentality and proactive contributor to IT team and partners

Responsibilities

• Own IT support end-to-end and turn recurring issues into durable fixes
• Diagnose and resolve cross-platform problems across macOS, Windows, and Linux
• Collaborate with HR and Security on onboarding/offboarding and access provisioning
• Administer MDM platforms and improve enrollment, compliance workflows
• Manage patch testing, validation, and rollout across devices
• Deploy and secure endpoints and SaaS access in a Zero Trust framework
• Build automations and scripts for provisioning, access, inventory, and ops workflows
• Manage device setup, software deployment, hardware shipping/receiving, IT asset inventory
• Support change management and cloud/IaC IT changes with teams
• Train staff on IT topics and contribute to system/docs/process improvements
• Participate in weekend on-call and after-hours response as needed
• Perform other IT-related duties as required

Your Role:

We are seeking an experienced IT Operations Specialist to help support our team members with IT related tasks and help ensure the Security of our organization. The IT Team is 100% distributed and remote. This role will be reporting directly to the IT Operations Manager.

Things You Get To Do:

• Own IT support end-to-end—be the reliable go-to for staff, while turning recurring issues into durable fixes and automations
• Diagnose and resolve complex cross-platform problems across macOS, Windows, and Linux
• Partner with HR and Security on scalable onboarding and offboarding (access, devices, and lifecycle)
• Administer MDM platforms (e.g. Jamf, Intune)—including BYOD—harden posture, and improve enrollment and compliance workflows
• Own patch management: test, validate, and roll out updates safely across the fleet
• Deploy and secure endpoints and SaaS access in a Zero Trust environment—tighten controls without blocking the business
• Build and improve automations (scripting, APIs, tools like n8n) for provisioning, access, inventory, and ops workflows
• Manage device setup, software deployment, hardware shipping/receiving, and the firm’s IT asset inventory
• Support change management and procurement; collaborate on cloud/IaC-related IT changes where needed
• Train staff on IT topics and contribute to continuous improvement of systems, docs, and processes
• Participate in weekend on-call (round-robin) and after-hours response as needed
• Other related duties as required

Who You Are (Must-Haves):

• Excited about Alpaca’s mission and what we’re building
• 6+ years in IT operations / systems engineering—you’ve owned, hardened, and improved systems, not just answered tickets
• Proven solutions builder: reverse-engineers complex issues, ships durable fixes, and continuously improves what you own
• Strong across macOS, Windows, and Linux, including device lifecycle
• Hands-on with at least two MDM solutions of the following: Jamf, Kandji, Intune, or comparable enterprise MDM
• Proven patch management experience—including testing, validation, and controlled rollout—not just pushing updates
• Experience with Google Workspace, 1Password, enterprise SaaS admin, EDR, and SSO / identity workflows
• Understands Zero Trust environments with good networking concepts to harden access and endpoints without constraining the business
• Builds and improves automations (scripting, APIs, workflow tools such as n8n); working fluency in at least two programming/scripting languages
• Hands-on with cloud (GCP and/or AWS) and IaC (e.g. Terraform)—comfortable in IaC-first environments
• Self-starter and fast responder in a fast-paced environment; clear communicator and team player across the IT team and other teams (business partners)
• Based for Eastern Time coverage; available for weekend on-call (round-robin rotation across the team)
• Fluent English (written and verbal); strong analytical and collaborative skills
• ATeam player with ownership mentality

Who You Might Be (Nice-to-Haves):

• Bachelor’s degree in IT, Computer Science, or related field
• IT, security, or cloud certifications
• Prior ownership of IT automation platforms, workflow tooling, or internal ops repos
• Experience designing scalable onboarding / access / offboarding automation
• Background in fintech or other regulated industries; familiarity with financial and privacy controls
• Business acumen to balance stakeholder urgency, security risk, feasibility, and budget
