Descripción del empleo

Support our mission and community with secure technology systems.

At Guide Dogs for the Blind (GDB), we train guide dogs to create partnerships with individuals who are blind or visually impaired. We are seeking an IT Infrastructure Specialist for Oregon that provides technical support across all computer systems, networks, telephony, security systems, audiovisual equipment, and software applications and is primarily dedicated as support for the OR campus. This role works closely with IT team members, end users, and external vendors to complete projects, resolve escalated issues, and ensure reliable operation of technology systems.

This role reports directly to the VP of the OR campus and maintains a dotted-line relationship with the IT Infrastructure Manager in CA. The VP provides day‑to‑day leadership, performance management, operational accountability, campus priorities, and oversight of local execution. The IT Infrastructure Manager provides strategic and programmatic guidance to ensure alignment with the IT vision, goals, standards, security, change management, and key outcomes. The IT Infrastructure Manager reports to the Director of Information Technology, keeping this role's work connected to the broader IT strategy and security posture.

When OR campus‑assigned tasks or priorities conflict with the IT department’s organization‑wide requirements, standards, or security obligations, IT requirements must take precedence, and the IT Infrastructure Manager or Director of Information Technology may reprioritize those tasks. The IT Infrastructure Specialist should promptly communicate any such conflicts to both the VP and the IT Infrastructure Manager so they can be resolved collaboratively. The successful candidate will be able to identify these potential conflicts and collaborate effectively across these relationships to support both campus priorities and the broader IT vision.

This is a campus‑based position with a hybrid work schedule available after an initial onboarding period.

What you’ll do:
  • Manage complex assigned projects, develop timelines with IT leadership, and meet established deadlines while balancing multiple priorities.
  • Respond to Help Desk requests with timely, high‑quality support for on‑campus, remote, and field users across a range of devices and applications.
  • Research, recommend, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot network, server and storage hardware and systems, audiovisual systems, videoconferencing tools, access control and surveillance systems, phones, and desktop and mobile devices.
  • Perform network maintenance, configuration, and repairs, including occasional after‑hours work.
  • Support upgrades and integration of application software.
  • Create technical and end‑user documentation that meets accessibility guidelines.
  • Manage complex technology projects such as new system deployments and major upgrades with limited direction.
  • Serve as backup for CA IT Infrastructure Specialist performing network administration duties, enforcing security policies, restoring data, and resolving complex infrastructure issues, escalating to vendors when necessary.
  • Research, evaluate and procure new technologies to support IT Steering Committee‑approved initiatives.
  • Stay current with supported and emerging hardware, software, and enterprise applications; maintain expertise in administrative systems, internet tools, mobile technologies, productivity applications, and VoIP platforms.
  • Provide user support for videoconferencing, audiovisual equipment, specialized software, and assistive technologies.
  • Maintain awareness of organizational needs and initiatives through ongoing communication with users and stakeholders.
  • Adhere to organizational values and IT Policies and Procedures, behaviors, and safety practices; promptly report incidents.
  • Perform additional duties within the IT function and represent the department as assigned.
What you’ll love:
  • Supporting technology that directly enables a life‑changing mission
  • Working across a wide range of systems with meaningful variety
  • Collaborating with a skilled, supportive IT team
  • Helping ensure accessible, secure technology for all users
  • Hybrid work flexibility after onboarding
The qualifications you’ll need:
  • Minimum five years of experience in computer hardware/software support and network administration (training may substitute for up to one year).
  • Experience with operating systems and environments such as Windows, Active Directory, VMWare, Box, Zoom, Verkada, ArcticWolf, Ruckus, remote access and patch management tools, and VoIP.
  • Strong understanding of TCP/IP networking, WAN environments, and Wi‑Fi systems.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity best practices and standards.
  • Experience upgrading operating systems and equipment, imaging devices, applying change management processes, and securely disposing of obsolete hardware.
  • Progress toward or completion of technical certifications (e.g., Microsoft certifications, CompTIA Network+) preferred.
  • Ability to quickly learn and support new technologies, including assistive tools for individuals with visual impairments.
  • Strong communication skills with both technical and non‑technical users.
