Job summary

Socket.dev is seeking an IT Infrastructure Engineer VI to advance database architecture, governance, and operational maturity across on-prem, cloud, and hybrid environments. You will influence roadmaps, standards, and governance while partnering with Solution Architects and engineers to enable secure, scalable database services.

Job Summary:

This IT Infrastructure Engineer VI serves within the enterprise infrastructure organization, with a primary focus on database architecture, engineering, and governance. The role is responsible for advancing the technical direction and operational maturity of critical database platforms that support business applications and enterprise technology initiatives.

The position operates at the intersection of infrastructure engineering, enterprise architecture, and technology strategy, enabling secure, scalable, and reliable database services across on-premises, cloud, and hybrid environments. Through collaboration with solution architects, engineering teams, and business stakeholders, the role helps align technology investments with business objectives while supporting modernization efforts and long-term platform evolution.

As a recognized technical leader, the IT Infrastructure Engineer VI influences enterprise roadmaps, governance frameworks, and technology standards that promote consistency, operational excellence, and risk awareness across the organization. The role helps establish a resilient and sustainable database foundation that supports evolving business, regulatory, and technology needs while enabling long-term enterprise growth and innovation.

Essential Responsibilities:
  • Drives the execution of multiple work streams by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and updating new procedures and policies; gaining cross-functional support for objectives and priorities; translating business strategy into actionable business requirements; obtaining and distributing resources; setting standards and measuring progress; removing obstacles that impact performance; guiding performance and developing contingency plans accordingly; solving highly complex issues; and influencing the completion of project tasks by others.
  • Practices self-leadership and promotes learning in others by soliciting and acting on performance feedback; building collaborative, cross-functional relationships; communicating information and providing advice to drive projects forward; adapting to competing demands and new responsibilities; providing feedback to others, including upward feedback to leadership; influencing, mentoring, and coaching team members; fostering open dialogue amongst team members; evaluating and responding to the strengths and weaknesses of self and unit members; and adapting to and learning from change, difficulties, and feedback.
  • As part of the IT Engineering job family, this position is responsible for leveraging DEVOPS, and both Waterfall and Agile practices, to design, develop, and deliver resilient, secure, multi-channel, high-volume, high-transaction, on/off-premise, cloud-based solutions.
  • Fosters and leverages partnerships with various IT Teams (e.g., database, operations, technical support) throughout system development and implementation.
  • Serve as an expert in developing system designs that adhere to company architecture standards.
  • Provides guidance and standards for writing, reviewing, and validating technical specifications and documentation.
  • Leads team interactions with architects and software engineers to ensure functional specifications are converted into flexible, scalable, and maintainable system designs.
  • Leverages partnerships with IT teams and key business partners to troubleshoot complex systems and provide solutions.
  • Modifies and validates system design prototypes.
  • Provides expert consultation and expert technical advice on IT infrastructure planning, engineering, and architecture for assigned systems across multiple IT functional areas by assessing the implications of IT strategies on infrastructure capabilities.
  • Leverages expertise on existing systems to make recommendations on resources required to maintain service levels and meet new demands.
  • Leads others in developing project support plans, schedules, and assignments.
  • Partners with business leaders, Solutions, and enterprise architects to review business drivers, and define, understand, and communicate target strategies and roadmaps to team members.
  • Leads colleagues in the translation of business requirements and functional specifications into technical specifications that support integrated and sustainable designs for complex or high impact infrastructure systems spanning multiple IT functional areas, by partnering with lead Business Analysts to understand business needs and functional specifications.
  • Provides recommendations and input on options, risks, costs, and benefits for systems designs.
  • Serves as a key partner for project teams throughout the implementation and maintenance of enterprise infrastructure systems across multiple functional IT areas by defining and overseeing the documentation of detailed standards (e.g., guidelines, processes, procedures) for the introduction and maintenance of services.
  • Leads team members in the estimation of resource requirements for technical design.
Minimum Qualifications:
  • Minimum four (4) years in a technical leadership role with or without direct reports.
  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, CIS, or related field and Minimum ten (10) years experience in an IT operations environment with technical experience in distributed technologies , systems development, and/or networking. Additional equivalent work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.
