Job summary

Smithfield Foods is seeking an IT Enterprise Application Architect to lead application architecture strategy, governance, and modernization across enterprise systems. The role emphasizes cloud, data architecture, and seamless integration to support global business goals.

The ideal candidate brings deep SDLC expertise, TOGAF knowledge, and a proven ability to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions. Location: Smithfield, VA; relocation may be considered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 5+ years of relevant experience or equivalent.
• Extensive experience in application development, integration, and architectural design.
• Deep understanding of cloud technologies, data architecture and SDLC.
• Expertise in Application Portfolio Optimization and governance.

Responsibilities

• Strategy and Vision: Develop and maintain application architecture roadmaps aligned with business strategies.
• Architecture Design & Governance: Define standards, design principles and best practices for app design and integration.
• System Evaluation: Assess emerging technologies and solutions for enterprise adoption.
• Integration and Scalability: Lead integration of complex systems ensuring scalable, secure, high-performance apps.
• Portfolio Rationalization and Road mapping: Identify overlaps and provide rationalization and build-vs-buy guidance.
• Governance and Compliance: Ensure designs meet enterprise standards and security protocols.

The position summary states the general nature and purpose of the job. Overall accountabilities are defined in this section. We are seeking an IT Enterprise Application Architect with expertise in Application Architecture to join our dynamic team.

• Strategy and Vision: Develop and maintain comprehensive application architecture roadmaps that align with business strategies and organizational priorities.
• Architecture Design & Governance: Define standards, design principles, and best practices for application design, development, and integration.
• System Evaluation: Evaluate emerging technologies, vendor platforms, and software solutions for enterprise adoption. Provide architectural guidance on modernization initiatives and future-state application capabilities.
• Integration and Scalability: Lead the integration of complex systems, ensuring applications are scalable, secure, performant and interoperable.
• Portfolio Rationalization and Road mapping: Identify overlapping or redundant applications and create rationalization recommendations and roadmaps. Support leadership with Build vs Buy analysis and application lifecycle decisions.
• Governance and Compliance: Review application designs for adherence to enterprise standards and security protocols.
• Collaboration: Work with business leaders, Infrastructure architects, Security architects and IT teams to ensure alignment of technology with business initiatives.

WHAT WE’RE SEEKING:

• Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited 4-year college or university with 5+ years of relevant experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
• Extensive experience in application development, integration, and architectural design.
• Deep understanding of cloud technologies, data architecture and software development lifecycles (SDLC).
• Expertise in Application Portfolio Optimization.
• Knowledge of orchestration tools to automate processes and services.
• Ability to analyze, translate, and define business requirements into technical solutions.
• Self-motivated and able to work independently with little supervision.
• TOGAF certification is a plus.
• Knowledge of SAP or JD Edwards ERP is a plus.

The expected pay range for this position is $115,000 - $150,000 annually. Smithfield Foods provides pay ranges that reflect its good faith estimate of the salary or hourly wage the company reasonably expects to pay for a position at the time of hire. Individual compensation will be determined based on several factors, including but not limited to, the scope and responsibilities of the role, location of the position, the candidate’s qualifications and experience, internal equity, external market pay for comparable positions and budget considerations.
