Job summary

WITRON Group in Arlington Heights, IL is seeking an UI Developer to maintain and extend legacy Windows-based applications used in large-scale intralogistics environments. You will work with the UI team to support production systems, upgrade infrastructure, and contribute to modernization efforts. Travel up to 20% may be required; occasional remote work is possible after 6 months.

Qualifications

• Experience with native Windows development preferred (VB6).
• Understanding of COM-based architectures and componentized apps.
• Experience with SQL databases (Oracle preferred).
• Strong troubleshooting and debugging in Windows environments.
• Excellent English communication with global teams and customers.
• Proactive, can-do attitude with problem-solving mindset.

Within that team you will primarily focus on maintaining the in-house legacy applications currently in use at the gigantic distribution centers we build for our customers. As An UI Developer, You Will

• You maintain and extend mission-critical legacy applications in customer production environments.
• You support infrastructure upgrades, system migrations, and customer transitions while ensuring continued application stability.
• You contribute to modernization and migration initiatives.
• You collaborate with customers and internal stakeholders to evaluate change requests, develop suitable solution approaches, prepare effort estimates, and implement and deploy agreed changes.
• You prepare clear technical documentation and specifications for end-user and developer audiences.
• You communicate effectively with customers and colleagues around the world.
• You develop technical solutions and recommendations with support from experienced team members, while coordinating with relevant stakeholders where required.

Requirements

• Experience with native Windows programming (preferably VB6).
• Basic understanding of COM-based technologies and component-based application architectures
• Experience working with SQL Databases (preferably Oracle)
• Proficiency in Troubleshooting and Debugging issues, particularly in the Windows ecosystem
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with both local and international colleagues and customers in English, across technical and non-technical contexts.
• Great attitude towards solving big problems and a “Can-Do” attitude.
• Helpful but not required: Experience with C#/.NET
• Helpful but not required: Exposure to logistics industry / terminology.
• Helpful but not required: Exposure to large codebases.

Education & Experience

• We valueteam players, practical experience, problem-solving ability, “Can do”-Attitude and a great personality.
• Bachelor’s degree in computer science/engineering or equivalent experience combined with some educational experience is advantageous but not required.
• Experience should include project design, coding, testing, delivery and technical documentation of GitHub projects, or personal coding examples, class projects or previous professional assignments.
• Logistics exposure is helpful but not required.

Travel

• Projects are all over the globe and so is the need see your work in action: Must be able to travel locally and internationally (up to 20%). Travel times fluctuate based on project needs and are always communicated ahead of time. Personal planning is considered during travel planning as much as possible.
• This is primarily an in-office position. Occasional remote work is available after 6 months and depends on individual work style, performance, and gained knowledge.
