U.S. Department of Commerce seeks a cybersecurity/privacy specialist in its Cybersecurity Modernization and Privacy Branch (CMPB) for a term appointment not-to-exceed two years. Candidates must meet OPM IT qualifications, including education and specialized experience for GS-13 level duties.

Extension up to 10 years may be possible under agency policy and 5 CFR 316.301. Preferred candidates have demonstrated planning of security projects, privacy IT procedures, and advising on updates to privacy

Qualifications

Job description

This position is located in the Cybersecurity Modernization and Privacy Branch (CMPB). This is a term appointment NTE two years. The appointment may be extended without further competition, in increments determined by the agency, up to the maximum period permitted under 5 CFR 316.301. Positions covered by 5 CFR 316.301 (c) may be extended up to a maximum of 10 years from the date of initial appointment. You must meet the United States Office of Personnel Management's (OPM) qualification requirements (including specialized experience and/or educational requirements) for the advertised position. You must meet all eligibility and qualifications requirements by the closing date of the job announcement.

Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped applicants with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level n the Federal service: For this position, the next lower grade level is a GS-13.

Specialized experience for this position includes:
  • 1. Planning security projects related to detecting, preventing and resolving security breaches.; AND
  • 2. Developing privacy related IT security procedures.; AND
  • 3. Advising on changes to privacy and cybersecurity mandates, executive orders and other updated requirements.
