Job summary

OpenAI in San Francisco is seeking an IT Audiovisual Operations Engineer to oversee conference room AV, video conferencing, digital signage, and related ITAV systems.

This is an in-office role requiring 5 days per week in San Francisco, with up to 30% travel to support ITAV systems. International travel is also required. You will partner with vendors and IT teams to ensure reliable operation and continuous improvements.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of enterprise AV implementation and troubleshooting experience.
• Hands-on with conference hardware from Logitech, Cisco, QSYS and Google Meet.
• Configuring, administering, and troubleshooting video conferencing platforms (Meet/Zoom/Teams).
• Experience working with support vendors to diagnose escalations and document resolutions.
• Experience with AV services, monitoring, software updates and recovery.
• Strong networking knowledge for AV connectivity and cross-team collaboration.
• Experience with AV over IP technologies (Q-LAN, Dante, NDI).

About the Role

As an ITAV Operations Engineer at OpenAI, you will administer and troubleshoot conference room AV, video conferencing, background music, digital signage, and other ITAV-owned systems. You will serve as the technical bridge between our support vendors and ITAV Engineering, resolving escalations that require internal access, administrative permissions, or deeper technical investigation. You will maintain reliable configurations, execute changes using established standards, and turn recurring issues into improvements to systems, documentation, and automation

This is an in-office role and will require 5 days a week in our San Francisco office. Travel 30% of the time to support ITAV systems, technical changes, and operational readiness. International travel is required.

In this role, you will:

• Set up, configure, administer, and maintain conference room AV, video conferencing, background music, digital signage, and other ITAV-owned systems.

• Resolve vendor escalations that require internal administrative access or technical expertise, owning diagnosis, remediation, and verification of service restoration.

• Manage assigned ITAV installation and commissioning scope for office builds, refreshes, and moves, adds, and changes using established standards, and verify that completed systems are ready for ongoing operation.

• Serve as the technical bridge between vendors and ITAV Engineering, providing clear diagnostic evidence and escalating issues that require changes to system designs or engineering standards.

• Execute software updates, configuration changes, equipment replacements, and conferencing move/add/change requests using established standards and recovery procedures.

• Validate operational readiness for new or upgraded systems, including configuration, monitoring, administrative access, documentation, and support handoffs.

• Investigate recurring failures and work with ITAV Engineering to implement and validate lasting improvements.

• Maintain runbooks and recovery procedures, and train vendors and support technicians on approved tasks, access boundaries, and escalation requirements.

• Partner with IT Systems Operations on identity and access, and with Workplace and content owners on service requirements and user training.

• Build, operate, and improve AI and agentic workflows for repeatable administration, configuration checks, and troubleshooting; validate results, handle failures, and measure reductions in manual effort.

You might thrive in this role if you have:

• 5+ years of experience implementing and troubleshooting enterprise AV systems, including installation, commissioning, and working from technical designs; hands-on experience with Logitech, Cisco, QSYS and Google Meet conferencing hardware.

• Hands-on expertise configuring, administering, and troubleshooting video conferencing platforms such as Google Meet, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams.

• Experience working with support vendors to diagnose escalated issues, perform administrative actions outside vendor permissions, and document verified resolutions.

• Experience administering AV or workplace technology services, including configuration, monitoring, software updates, and recovery, as well as migrating video conferencing platforms.

• Practical knowledge of enterprise networking, including IP addressing, VLANs, DNS, DHCP, and multicast, sufficient to diagnose AV connectivity and work effectively with Network Engineering.

• Experience configuring and troubleshooting wayfinding and conference room booking hardware, software, and room-resource integrations.

• Experience deploying and troubleshooting AV over IP, including Q-LAN, Dante, and NDI.

• Experience configuring and troubleshooting systems in the Q-SYS control ecosystem.

• Experience applying AV build standards, validating system performance, and maintaining clear configuration and support documentation.

• Experience using IT ticketing systems to prioritize technical escalations, communicate with users and partner teams, and meet agreed support expectations.

• Experience using basic scripting, such as Bash, Lua, Python, or JavaScript, and AI or agentic workflows to automate repeatable work, validate results, handle failures, and document how others can operate it.

Compensation

$187K - $207K + Offers Equity

The base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. If the role is non-exempt, overtime pay will be provided consistent with applicable laws. In addition to the salary range listed above, total compensation also includes generous equity, performance-related bonus(es) for eligible employees, and the following benefits.
