Job summary

EWASTE+ is seeking an IT Asset Processing Technician for our Scotia, NY facility. This hands-on role combines secure data destruction, asset processing, diagnostic testing, and customer service. Up to 20% travel to client sites in the Capital Region is expected.

The ideal candidate will be technically adept with hardware, have experience with desktops, laptops, servers, networking gear, and have familiarity with HDDs/SSDs. No degree required; training provided.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Perform secure data sanitization on hard drives, SSDs and other devices using approved software.
  • Accurately serialize and document electronic assets with chain‑of‑custody records.
  • Process assets and perform secure data destruction at the Scotia facility.
  • Conduct diagnostic tests and basic hardware troubleshooting to verify device functionality.
  • Identify and document hardware specifications and configurations.
  • Travel to customer locations up to 20% of the week for on‑site services.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and asset tracking throughout processing.
  • Represent EWASTE+ professionally while interacting with customers.
  • Follow all safety, security and compliance procedures.

IT Asset Processing Technician

EWASTE+ is seeking a IT Asset Processing Technician for our Scotia location! We are seeking a dependable, detail-oriented individual with strong technical aptitude to join our Scotia operations team. This is a hands-on position that combines secure data destruction, electronic asset processing, technical diagnostics, and customer service. While this is not a traditional IT support role, it requires someone who is comfortable working with technology and understands computer hardware.

Position Summary

The IT Asset Processing Technician is responsible for securely processing electronic assets, sanitizing data-bearing devices, performing diagnostic testing, and maintaining accurate asset records. Approximately 80% of the position is based at our Scotia processing facility, with up to 20% of the work week spent traveling throughout the Capital Region to perform secure on-site asset serialization and data destruction services at customer locations. This position requires professionalism, attention to detail, technical aptitude, and the ability to work independently while representing EWASTE+ in a customer-facing environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform secure data sanitization on hard drives, SSDs, and other electronic data-bearing devices using approved software and procedures.
  • Accurately serialize and document electronic assets while maintaining chain-of-custody records.
  • Process electronic assets and perform secure data destruction at the Scotia processing facility.
  • Perform diagnostic testing and basic hardware troubleshooting to determine device functionality, identify failed components, and verify system configurations.
  • Identify and document computer hardware specifications and configurations.
  • Travel to customer locations (up to 20% of the work week) throughout the Capital Region to perform on-site asset serialization and secure data destruction services.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and asset tracking throughout the processing lifecycle.
  • Represent EWASTE+ professionally while working directly with customers.
  • Follow all company safety, security, and compliance procedures.
Technical Skills & Qualifications
  • Strong technical aptitude and the ability to quickly learn new technology and software.
  • Experience working with desktops, laptops, servers, networking equipment, tablets, mobile devices, and other electronic hardware.
  • Working knowledge of computer hardware, networking fundamentals, and common IT equipment.
  • Ability to identify computer components and understand hardware specifications.
  • Experience performing diagnostic testing and basic hardware troubleshooting to identify faulty components and verify device functionality.
  • Familiarity with hard drives, solid-state drives (SSDs), and other electronic data-bearing devices.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365, including Outlook, Excel, and Word.
Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following is preferred:

  • Computer repair or hardware diagnostics
  • Electronics recycling or IT Asset Disposition (ITAD)
  • Warehouse operations involving electronic equipment
  • Asset tracking or inventory management
  • Customer-facing service roles

Formal IT certifications or a college degree are not required. We value hands-on experience, technical aptitude, attention to detail, and a willingness to learn.

Pay: $18.00 - $22.00/hour (based on experience)

  • Reliable personal transportation is required for travel to customer locations.
  • Employees who use their personal vehicle for business travel will be reimbursed for mileage.
  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Regularly lift and move up to 40 pounds unassisted

  • Climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl
  • Work safely in a fast paced environment
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check & drug screen.
