Under direction, manage and administer large-scale high-performance computing systems and networks, which include cutting edge research cluster computers containing a dozen to several hundred nodes, various types of servers, storage systems for multi-terabyte databases, backup system and specialized networks that enable research programs whose per annum budgets are in the tens of millions of dollars. Assist researchers in the implementation of database, software and computing solutions to meet scientific and administrative computational needs of life sciences research and education at UC Davis. Maintain computer and network security, and data integrity. Participate in documentation and training on the use of the computing resources provided. Act as a liaison representing high performance computing to the broader UC Davis campus technical and scientific communities. Participate in long-range planning required to develop and maintain a capable, stable and technically current computing environment supporting high performance computing needs, as well as those of individual research groups.

Department Overview
The high performance computing (HPC) infrastructure of the Genome Center supports the diverse needs of six Campus Resource Core Facilities, over 70 Faculty Research labs, and Administrative support staff. Currently, the largest HPC Cluster on campus, it totals more than 10,000 CPUs, 60,100 GPU Cores, and over 7,000 Terabytes of storage. Additionally, the number of connected workstations, laptops, and servers totals over 1,000. Windows, Mac, and Linux/UNIX systems are all used extensively. Each serviced unit has extensive and varied technical computing research requirements, encompassing high performance computing, large data storage systems, robotics, instrumentation, big data acquisition, graphics, code development, security, and other specialty systems. There is a diverse set of infrastructures to support general needs such as web services, firewalls, virtual machines, cloud computing, file/SAN and backup service, custom applications, business intelligence tools, and user account management. The Genome Center HPC is expected to fold within a larger-scale campus-wide center in summer 2020.
