Job summary

BEAR Construction Company is seeking a skilled Superintendent to oversee projects through full lifecycle with emphasis on safety, quality, field leadership, and schedule execution. The role collaborates with project managers and owners, demanding organization and proactive timing in a fast-paced environment.

Projects include large site development, processing plant expansions, and cutting-edge laboratories, with diverse markets and delivery methods.

Qualifications

  • Previous experience as a construction Superintendent preferred.
  • Field experience, trade school, or college degree (Construction Management/Engineering preferred).
  • Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain phasing plans and look-ahead schedules while communicating progress updates to the project team and stakeholders.
  • Track project progress and maintain schedules on a regular basis.
  • Coordinate all construction activities with trade partners and stakeholders to facilitate completion of the project.
  • Organize and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly project site and working environment.
  • Monitor the quality of installed work and enforce quality control plans.
  • In ISPD environments where BEAR notes safety/quality are critical, maintain consistent compliance and quality control focus.
  • Act as a liaison for BEAR and project owners on site in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly and concisely with all parties involved on the project.
  • Provide clear written documentation to all parties involved on the project.
  • Read and understand project documents including drawings, shop drawings, specs, product data sheets, and schedules.
  • Manage, track, and document project activities including safety, schedules, daily reports, trade hours, material delivery tracking, approved RFIs, approved submittals, photo documentation, change order documentation, and punch lists.
  • Utilize project documentation software.
  • Photo documentation expectation: BEAR’s superintendent guidance states daily photos on all projects for documentation/dispute support.

Job description

The Superintendent is responsible for monitoring projects through the full lifecycle with a strong focus on safety, quality, field leadership, schedule execution, documentation, and communication. This role works closely with the project manager/project team and the owner’s team, and must be highly organized, proactive, and able to perform in a fast-paced environment.

BEAR’s Industrial & Special Projects work can include a wide range of project types and environments, such as large site development, processing plant expansions, and state-of-the-art research & development laboratories.

ISPD projects may span multiple market sectors, with work varying in size, scope, and complexity, and BEAR emphasizes that safety and quality control are paramount when working in the most critical environments.

BEAR’s Industrial team delivers projects using multiple delivery methods, including general contracting, construction management, design-build, and plant maintenance agreements.

(Examples of industrial/special project markets listed: Chemical + Utility Processing, Manufacturing + Distribution, Food + Beverage, Science + Technology, Transportation, Civil Infrastructure, Solar.)

Key Responsibilities
Field Leadership, Planning & Schedule
  • Develop and maintain phasing plans and look-ahead schedules while communicating progress updates to the project team and stakeholders.

  • Coordinate all construction activities with trade partners and stakeholders to facilitate completion of the project.
Safety, Cleanliness & Quality
  • Organize and maintain a safe, clean, and orderly project site and working environment.
  • Monitor the quality of installed work and enforce quality control plans.
  • In ISPD environments where BEAR notes safety/quality are critical, maintain consistent compliance and quality control focus.
Communication & Stakeholder Management
  • Act as a liaison for BEAR and project owners on site in a professional manner.
  • Collaborate and communicate clearly and concisely with all parties involved in the project, including BEAR team members, owners, architects, trade partners, subcontractors, and suppliers.
  • Provide clear written documentation to all parties involved on the project.
Documentation & Controls (ISPD execution depends on this)
  • Read and understand project documents including drawings, shop drawings, specs, product data sheets, and schedules.
  • Manage, track, and document project activities including safety, schedules, daily reports, trade hours, material delivery tracking, approved RFIs, approved submittals, photo documentation, change order documentation, and punch lists.
  • Utilize project documentation software.
  • Photo documentation expectation: BEAR’s superintendent guidance states superintendents are expected to take photos daily on all projects, and notes these can support documentation in disputes and for marketing purposes.
  • Understand the importance of proper accounting phase codes and assigning time.
Budget Awareness + Field Cost Controls
  • Maintain various project budgets and estimates for field activities.
  • BEAR superintendent guidance includes “basic estimating skills,” including understanding extras, self-perform estimates, and tracking estimated hours vs. actual hours when self-perform work is used.
  • BEAR superintendent guidance also addresses subcontractor field tickets and field work order tracking expectations.
Materials, Equipment, and Site Logistics
  • Manage equipment and materials as required.
  • Coordinate activities with local permit agencies as needed.
  • Monitor self-perform activities and supervise tradespeople.
Qualifications
Required
  • Previous experience as a construction Superintendent preferred.
  • Field experience, trade school, or college degree (Construction Management/Engineering preferred).
  • Knowledge of local quality, safety, and health guidelines for construction job sites.
  • Familiarity with MS Office preferred.
  • Procore and scheduling software awareness.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills; ability to lead and inspire.
  • This is a full-time field role supporting active projects.
  • Typical field hours are often aligned to project needs; BEAR has used 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM as a standard reference for field employees (or as mutually agreed), with flexibility for project priorities.
