Job summary

Eightelevengroup seeks an experienced ISP Field Technician for a 6-month on-site contract in Bethpage, NY. You will install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain advanced telecom equipment at customer premises, COLO, and data centers, focusing on optical networks and ROADM deployments.

Ideal candidates have 5+ years in telecom field operations, hands-on DWDM experience, and strong problem-solving abilities.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of installation, provisioning and repair of telecom equipment.
• Thorough knowledge of Ethernet, DWDM, CWDM, WAN/LAN and TCP/IP.
• Hands-on with DWDM/ROADM systems and optical components.

Responsibilities

• Assemble, configure and install components supporting Ethernet, DWDM, CWDM and ROADM using Netcracker procedures.
• Travel to remote sites for equipment installation and maintenance.
• Perform OTDR tests and power/trace measurements on dark fiber networks.
• Analyze OTDR traces to identify faults, splices and reflections.
• Conduct cabling, labeling and cross-connects in telecom rooms and data centers.
• Coordinate with Engineering and Activation teams for circuit turn-ups and migrations.
• Document test results, fiber layouts and equipment configurations.
• Provision and test network facility circuits in data centers and COLO sites.

ISP Field Technician

$30 - $35 per hour

ABOUT THE ROLE

Our client is seeking an experienced ISP Field Technician for a 6-month on-site contract in Bethpage, New York. In this role, you will be responsible for the installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of advanced telecommunications equipment and services at customer premises, COLO, and data center locations. You will work extensively with optical transport and DWDM networks, including hands-on tasks with Cisco MPLS, Ciena 6500 optical systems, ROADM, SONET networks, and dark fiber OTDR testing. The position requires a solid background in telecommunications infrastructure, strong technical skills, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively with engineering teams. Flexibility in working hours and a commitment to safety and compliance are essential.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Assemble, configure, and install electronic components supporting Ethernet, DWDM, CWDM, and ROADM technologies using Netcracker designs and provided methods & procedures
• Travel to remote sites and data centers for equipment installation and maintenance as required
• Conduct OTDR, power meter/light source, and insertion loss tests on dark fiber networks to assess and certify optical performance
• Analyze OTDR traces to identify and localize fiber faults, splices, connectors, and reflectance anomalies
• Perform cabling labeling, patching, and cross-connects in telecom rooms and data centers
• Coordinate with Engineering & Activation Teams for circuit turn-ups, migrations, and troubleshooting
• Maintain and document test results, fiber plant layouts, equipment configurations, and work orders
• Provision, test, and turn up network facility circuits in Data Center and COLO locations
• Connect AC or DC power to telecommunications equipment and verify backup battery functionality as required
• Ensure compliance with all safety standards, industry regulations, and company policies
• Work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and participate in on-call rotation as required

WHAT YOU BRING

• 5+ years’ experience in installation, provisioning, and repair of telecommunication equipment
• Thorough understanding of all phases of network installation, including Ethernet, DWDM, CWDM, WAN/LAN, and TCP/IP applications
• Hands-on experience with Ciena 6500 series (provisioning, alarms, optical power management)
• Proficient with OTDRs (e.g., EXFO, JDSU, VeEx) and associated testing/reporting tools
• Knowledge of DWDM systems, optical theory, and fiber characterization
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook
• Knowledge of Netcracker (a plus)
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Knowledge of fiber optics, CAT5e/6 cabling, and basic physical layer troubleshooting
• Self-motivated with strong time management and organizational abilities
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and conflict resolution skills
• Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and on-call rotation as required
