Job summary

Menards seeks an IS Financials Developer to design, build, and maintain Java and Progress/OpenEdge applications for the Accounting and Finance Team. You’ll collaborate with the Financial Systems Team Leader, deliver timely updates, and support corporate staff across departments throughout the software lifecycle.

You will work with modern Java technologies and Progress/OpenEdge, learn Progress as needed, and participate in a broad enterprise tech stack while ensuring system quality and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Associate’s degree in Computer Science, Software Development, Software Engineering, or related major.
• Strong programming fundamentals and experience/proficiencies in: Java or another object-oriented programming language.
• SQL and database development.
• Progress/OpenEdge, preferred but not required; the ability and willingness to learn Progress is required.
• Knowledge of/Proficiency in: Database administration, data definition language (DDL), structured query language (SQL), and relational database design concepts and practices.
• UNIX operating system and writing UNIX shell programs.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service.
• Strong verbal and written communication.
• Excellent analytical skills for problem determination and resolution.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities.
• Ability to work independently as well as cooperate effectively in team efforts.
• Must work within designated normal office hours assigned or required by work.
• May be required to work overtime and provide on call support, including weekends and holidays.
• Relocation to Eau Claire, WI and minimal travel required.
• Candidates must be eligible to work in the United States, presently and in the future, without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain current and future financial systems using Java and Progress/OpenEdge.
• Work closely with the Financial Systems Team Leader on related projects providing timeline and task information through analysis based on a proposed project scope.
• Provide timely and accurate project task updates.
• Provide advanced-level technical support to Menards' corporate staff, store, Helpdesk, and technical support Team Members to troubleshoot problems as they arise.
• Maintain an in-depth understanding of business operations to facilitate communication regarding business requirements.
• Meet with Business Users to gather feedback, evaluate satisfaction, and identify opportunities for system improvements.
• Analyze user enhancement and maintenance requests, determine possible solutions, and complete necessary changes.
• Actively participate in writing code, testing, and implementing program changes and new development.
• Consistently monitor and test work to ensure a high level of quality.
• Suggest and recommend ways to improve the quality and efficiency of work within the IS Financials Department.
• Coordinate software and hardware installation with user departments, ensuring satisfactory results.
• Perform other tasks as assigned by the Financial Systems Team Leader or Manager.
• Participate in a rotational department on-call schedule and provide after-hours support as required.

Job Description

The IS Financials Developer is responsible for developing and maintaining applications for the Accounting and Finance Team. Candidates with strong programming and database development skills will have the opportunity to learn Progress as part of the role. The position requires a highly motivated, team-oriented person with excellent communication skills and the ability to work across all phases of the software development life cycle, from design and development through testing and implementation. Work with both modern Java technologies and established Progress/OpenEdge systems while gaining experience across a diverse enterprise technology stack.
