Job Knowledge, Core Competencies and Expectations

• Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves, controllers, and various types of pumps and pumping systems.
• Knowledge of principles and practices of turf grass management.
• Knowledge of pump station maintenance and repair.
• Knowledge of disease and insect identification.
• Knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in grounds maintenance work.
• Ability to operate all golf course equipment.
• Knowledge of and ability to perform required roles in emergency situations.

Job Summary (Essential Functions)

Responsible for the operation and maintenance of all irrigation and drainage systems on the golf course and grounds. Also assists with daily golf course maintenance duties.

Job Tasks/Duties

• Waters greens, tees, fairways, rough, lawns, and other areas as needed or scheduled.
• Monitors water usage and informs the Golf Course Superintendent of any adjustments needed for irrigation system settings.
• Operates irrigation heads in dry areas requiring additional water.
• Designs, implements, and maintains mechanical and electrical components of the irrigation system.
• Performs repairs on irrigation equipment, including pipes and heads.
• Conducts preventive maintenance on all irrigation-related equipment.
• Maintains records of all equipment maintenance and system data, including weather, rainfall, fertilizer, and pesticide applications.
• Prepares monthly water usage reports for wells and pumps.
• Assists with grading, soil preparation, sod laying, and seeding greens, tees, and fairways.
• Supports greens repair with seed or plugs as needed.
• Assists in pesticide and fertilizer application under supervision.
• Operates light equipment such as dump trucks for hauling and debris removal.
• May supervise crews for special projects.
• Attends staff meetings and performs other tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent.

Licenses and Special Requirements

• Valid driver’s license.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

- Regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and outdoor weather conditions.

- Frequently exposed to fumes, airborne particles, and chemicals.

- Occasionally exposed to wet/humid conditions, heights, extreme temperatures, electrical hazards, and vibration. Noise levels are moderate to loud.

- Must meet physical requirements, including frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, pulling, standing, and walking.

- May require protective gear such as respirators, gloves, earplugs, eye protection, boots, and hats.
