Job summary

Audubon Nature Institute is seeking an Irrigation Technician for the Golf Maintenance team, responsible for programming, operating, repairing, and maintaining the golf course irrigation system under the Golf Course Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent.

You will monitor weather, adjust watering programs, maintain records, repair components, and keep pumps and pump houses in good working order while coordinating with course staff to meet the course's water needs and uphold our standards of turf

Qualifications

  • Two years’ experience in irrigation systems or related field.
  • Ability to work underground for repairs.
  • Welds pipes and fixes irrigation components.

Responsibilities

  • Waters all golf course turf as needed under guidance.
  • Meet daily with Supervisors to discuss course needs.
  • Monitor weather and adjust watering programs accordingly.
  • Record rainfall totals and watering cycles.
  • Repair irrigation system components, heads, and pipes.
  • Maintain inventory and order irrigation parts.
  • Evaluate and edit watering programs in irrigation software.
  • Maintain pumps, pump station and pump house; clean and locate sprinkler heads and wiring boxes.

What You’ll Do

The Irrigation Technician, under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent, is responsible for the programming, operation, repair, and maintenance of the golf course’s irrigation system.

Day to Day Responsibilities
  • Waters all golf course turf as needed with input from the Golf Course Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent.
  • Meets with Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent for daily communication on course needs
  • Monitors weather conditions and adjust watering programs accordingly in conjunction with the Golf Course Superintendents/Assistants goals.
  • Assist in maintaining records of rainfall totals and watering cycles.
  • Repair the irrigation system, heads, and pipes as needed.
  • Maintains inventory and ordering of irrigation system parts and supplies
  • Works with the Golf Course Superintendent/Assistant Superintendent to evaluate and edit watering programs in the irrigation software as needed.
  • Maintains pumps, pumpstation and pump house
  • Maintains the cleaning/locating of all Sprinkler heads, valve and wiring boxes

What We’re Looking For
Must Haves:
  • two year’s experience in irrigation systems, plumbing, landscaping, or other related field.
  • Ability to work under ground level in making repairs to irrigation system
  • A do it right the first time attitude
  • Trouble shooting abilities
  • Ability to weld pipe
Nice-to-Haves:
  • Landscape irrigation background
  • Knowledge in Rainbird Cirrus Pro Controller system
Physical Requirements:

Active Work: exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally, or a necessary amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. May involve walking or standing for extended periods of time.

Sitting or standing, bending, stooping, and the ability to carry items weighing up to 80 pounds.

  • Constant adequate range of motion and mobility required.
  • Regular near acuity with clarity of vision at 20 inches or less required.
  • Typical ability to collect and analyze numerical and written data and verbal information to reach logical conclusions and ability to determine the time, place and sequence of operations or actions required.
  • Regular talking and the ability to express and exchange ideas by means of language expected.
  • Regular hearing and the ability to perceive the nature of sounds
