Job summary

The Dallas Arboretum in Dallas, TX is seeking an experienced Irrigation Technician to maintain, repair, and manage the garden’s irrigation systems. This full-time role requires operating tools, coordinating with the Irrigation Manager, and completing tasks with minimal supervision.

You will schedule irrigation activities, assist in SOP development, supervise support staff on larger projects, and ensure safety and documentation.

Qualifications

• Valid irrigation license or 3+ years hands-on irrigation maintenance experience.
• Strong knowledge of irrigation systems and pump operations.
• Supervisory experience preferred.
• Able to organize workflow, complete tasks on schedule, and foster team collaboration.
• Must have a Texas driver’s license and be able to operate garden vehicles.
• Willingness to work weekends/holidays as required.
• Ability to pass pre-employment checks including background, medical eval, and drug screening.

Responsibilities

• Maintain irrigation systems to ensure optimal plant health and landscape quality.
• Perform routine maintenance and promptly report malfunctions.
• Implement irrigation schedules, inspections, and minor repairs.
• Follow daily/weekly/monthly project schedules from the Irrigation Manager.
• Lead and coordinate staff on larger irrigation projects to ensure timely completion.
• Oversee external contractors for irrigation and pump repairs as directed.
• Maintain daily logs and update project status documentation.
• Contribute to written SOPs for irrigation systems.
• Communicate supply needs and assist with procurement of materials.
