About the Role:

The Irrigation Coach leads the Irrigation team — including the Irrigation Team Leader and Irrigation Craftsmen — responsible for the daily operation, maintenance, and some repair irrigation, fertigation, and water distribution system across the nursery. This is a hands‑on operations seat: the Coach makes sure that Irrigation Craftsmen adjust irrigation schedules, keep pump houses, wells, filtration, and fertilizer injection systems running. It will be the Irrigation coach who ensures that Irrigation Craftsmen are following the best practices for irrigating crops as outlined in the Irrigation Craftsmen job aid. The coach follows up on job performance and maintains records for performance management of all Irrigation Craftsmen. The coach communicates all nursery information pertinent to the team and is a resource for feedback. The coach puts together and maintains a work schedule for seven day a week operation between full time and weekend Irrigation Craftsmen. The Coach partners closely with the Plant Protection Coach, Crop Grower Coaches, and the Local Quality Council (LQC) on water quality, fertility sampling, and Best Management Practices for disease prevention, rather than owning plant‑health decisions outright. Strong performers who build a track record of uptime, water conservation, and plant‑quality results position themselves for broader leadership across Monrovia's nurseries. Occasionally the Irrigation Coach will step in directly on a major system failure or repair alongside the Craftsmen.

You will...

• Lead Irrigation Craftsmen, setting the daily Irrigators’ Plan of the Day (IPOD)
• Own irrigation scheduling and system uptime for pumps, wells, filtration, controllers, and fertilizer injection across every growing area
• Apply real hands‑on craft — troubleshooting, repairing, and installing irrigation and fertigation systems while championing water conservation and Best Management Practices
• Partner cross‑functionally with the Plant Protection Coach, Crop Grower Coaches, and the LQC on water quality, fertility, and plant‑health decisions
• Build a track record of measurable operational wins — uptime, water conservation, plant quality — as a stepping stone to broader leadership across Monrovia's nurseries
• Work with Craftsmen in a collaborative, rewarding, and quality‑focused environment

Who You Are

You…

• Strong hands‑on knowledge of irrigation systems, fertilizer injection systems, pumps, valves, controllers, and water management practices
• Ability to lead, train, and hold a team accountable to daily tasking and quality standards
• Ability to balance plant water requirements against system capabilities across multiple growing areas
• Basic carpentry and electrical skills; ability to troubleshoot irrigation electrical components, solenoids, wiring, and control systems
• Ability and willingness to work flexible hours and overtime when required, including weekend and holiday on‑call coverage for irrigation emergencies
• Able to communicate clearly and build trust with a majority Spanish‑speaking workforce
• Sound judgment for knowing when to solve a problem directly versus escalation it
• Self‑motivated and proactive with a can‑do attitude and commitment to excellence

Education And Experience

• Minimum of 3–5 years of irrigation experience, preferably within a container‑grown ornamental nursery or agricultural production environment, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
• Strong understanding of irrigation scheduling, water conservation practices, and fertility programs
• Prior lead or supervisory experience preferred — strong Craftsmen ready to grow are encouraged to apply
• Valid state‑issued driver's license
