University of Missouri-Columbia's MURR program seeks an Irradiation Engineer to design, analyze, and qualify irradiation experiments. You will own neutronics, nuclear heating, and thermal analysis to ensure dose and temperature targets are met safely.

Responsibilities include capsule design, experiment execution, safety analyses, and collaboration on proposals to DOE and NSUF. A BS in nuclear or mechanical engineering is required.

Qualifications

• BS in nuclear or mechanical engineering.
• Coursework or experience in reactor physics or neutron transport, and in heat transfer.
• Working knowledge of MCNP and one thermal or finite-element tool (COMSOL).
• Strong written communication for analysis reports and safety documentation.

Responsibilities

• Own neutronics, nuclear heating, and thermal analyses for irradiation experiments.
• Design test capsules and rigs; perform heat-transfer and finite-element analyses; produce drawings and fabrication packages.
• Coordinate experiment execution, safety analyses, and dosimetry planning with reactor operations.
• Translate sponsor/test needs into irradiation conditions, schedules, and cost estimates; assist in proposals.
