Job summary

University of Missouri Research Reactor in Missouri is seeking an experienced Engineer IV to lead technical efforts for critical facility infrastructure. You will guide building systems, drive reliability, modernization, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence while mentoring engineering staff.

The role partners with operations, research, QA, and external partners to evaluate, design, maintain, and improve complex systems and drive strategic upgrades across the MURR facility.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related area and at least 6 years of experience.
• Experience with building systems including HVAC, steam, chilled water, compressed air.
• Experience leading projects from concept through commissioning.
• Ability to evaluate complex technical issues and present to senior leadership.
• Balance safety, regulatory, operational and financial considerations.

Responsibilities

• Lead monitoring, design, maintenance, and optimization of facility systems (HVAC, steam, chilled water, compressed air, vacuum).
• Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and training to engineering staff on standards and performance.
• Serve as project manager and SME for facility improvement initiatives and capital projects.
• Analyze and troubleshoot complex system issues and develop engineering solutions.
• Drive corrective actions by partnering with stakeholders to improve reliability.
• Review engineering docs, drawings, and designs from external firms.
• Recommend and support upgrades aligned with goals and needs.
• Develop, update, and implement engineering procedures and standards.
• Coordinate with internal departments, regulators, contractors, and vendors for project execution.
• Communicate system impacts and outages to stakeholders balancing engineering and business needs.
