Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Resource Planning Lead to shape long-term generation planning and the energy transition across multiple states. You will lead IRP development, coordinate analysts, and provide technical guidance to senior leadership to inform major investment decisions.

The role blends quantitative analysis, regulatory engagement, and cross-functional collaboration, with responsibilities spanning load forecasting, modeling, and preparing regulatory filings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, mathematics, computer science, or business (or related field) with two years analytical experience.
• Three years as Resource Planning Analyst Staff or ten years related planning experience in generation or transmission.
• Professional certification (PE, PMP, CFA, CMA) preferred.
• Sedentary work requirement noted.

Responsibilities

• Manage IRP development and related studies across multiple operating companies and regulatory jurisdictions.
• Coordinate cross-functional teams to ensure quality deliverables and adherence to schedules.
• Lead planning assumptions including load forecasts, prices, and technology costs.
• Direct resource optimization, production cost, and financial modeling efforts.
• Evaluate generation, storage, demand-side resources, and emerging technologies.
• Translate modeling results into actionable recommendations for leadership and regulators.
• Prepare technical reports, regulatory filings, and expert testimony.
• Engage with regulators and stakeholders; maintain RTO market knowledge.
