Job summary

This is a non-exempt, on-site position with strict safety requirements. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent and 1–4 years of ironworking experience, plus knowledge of ironworker tools, rigging, and safety PPE.

We are seeking an Ironworker for a maintenance position in Pass Christian, MS. The Ironworker position works as a member of a crew to raise, place and unite girders, columns and other structural-steel members to form completed structures and frameworks. Non-exempt role; Reports to the Foreman; Assigned duties according to specific procedures / work is checked frequently.

Essential Qualifications

• High school or equivalent
• One (1) to four (4) years of experience in specified skill (depending on mechanic level)
• Knowledge of ironworker tools and how to use them
• Rigging skills including wire rope slings
• Some job sites may require NCCER certification
• Written pre-employment qualification test
• Post-offer drug/alcohol screen and physical evaluation
• Job site safety requirements as required by the client (clean shaven, long sleeves, steel toe boots, etc.)
• Safety equipment as required by the client (hard hat, safety glasses, gloves, respirator, hearing protection, safety harness with lanyard, etc.)
• Applicant/employee must not pose a direct threat to the health or safety of others in the workplace
• NO relocation available for this position; the successful candidate will be a current resident in/near the area

Functional Requirements

Off loads deliveries of structural material from hg the fabricator; sets up and breaks down hoisting equipment for raising and placing structural-steel members; fastens steel members to cable of hoist; signals worker operating hoisting equipment to lift and place steel member; guides member or rides on member in order to guide it into position; pulls or pries steel members into approximate position while member is supported by hoisting device; forces members into final position; aligns holes in member with corresponding holes in previously placed member; verifies vertical and horizontal alignment of members; bolts aligned members to keep them in position until they can be permanently bolted; cuts steel members to make alterations.

Compensation

Final agreed upon compensation is based upon individual qualifications and experience.
