Job summary

A prominent international AmLaw 50 law firm is seeking a Patent Agent for its IP - Patents Practice. This hybrid role supports scientists transitioning into law, drafting and prosecuting patent applications in emerging tech.

You will work with inventors and attorneys, conduct searches, and negotiate with the USPTO. The firm offers competitive compensation and a flexible hybrid schedule, with opportunities across multiple locations including NY.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering, CS, or Physics with excellent academics.
• 2+ years in patent preparation and prosecution.
• Experience in data science, ML/AI, wireless, sensors or optics is advantageous.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
• Strong analytical, writing, and communication skills with attention to detail.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications.
• Identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors.
• Perform novelty and clearance searches to delineate new ideas.
• Draft patent applications and negotiate patent rights scope with the USPTO.
• Prepare reports and documentation for patent portfolio management.

Candidate Profile

• Bachelor's degree orhigher in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or Physics with an excellent academic record
• 2+ years of substantive experience in patent preparation and prosecution
• Experience in data science, machine learning, artificial intelligence, wireless communications, sensors, semiconductors, Internet of Things,optics, or related fields is highly advantageous
• Working proficiency in Microsoft Office software
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, and writing skills, with an exceptional attention to technical detail and effective organizational and communication skills

Key Responsibilities

• Work with inventors and attorneys to prepare and prosecute patent applications in emerging technology areas
• Identify inventions through technical discussions with inventors
• Perform novelty and clearance searches to delineate inventions from existing technologies
• Draft comprehensive patent applications and negotiate the scope of patent rights with the USPTO
• Prepare reports and support documentation for patent portfolio management
