Job summary

Cooley LLP seeks a Director of IP Operations to lead the IP Services function within its global IP practice. The role emphasizes implementing Best Practices, managing the IP management systems, and driving efficiency across patent, trademark, copyright, and advertising workflows.

You will supervise managers and teams, partner with HR, Talent and technology groups, and shape training, staffing and client service quality.

Qualifications

• Minimum 10 years' IP experience with 5+ years in a management role at a professional services firm.
• Experience managing and mentoring managers and teams across functional areas.
• Strong project management skills and ability to drive cross‑functional initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Oversee IP operations and business professional management within IP Services.
• Lead Best Practices initiatives and professional development for practitioners and staff.
• Manage IP systems, including IP Management System and related tools.
• Collaborate with HR and Legal Talent on coaching and training.
• Drive improvements to billing, cost analysis and client service.
• Ensure compliance with firm policies and risk management guidelines.
• Lead budgeting, staffing, and performance reporting for IP Services.
