The qualified candidate possesses a Ph.D. in Chemistry and experience working with sophisticated technologies involving pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related disciplines.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Conduct technical and legal analyses of patents and literature to support litigation strategy.
• Collaborate with clients, experts, and consultants on life sciences matters.
• Assist with development of litigation strategy and case preparation.
• Draft and review briefs, motions, discovery, and other filings.
• Participate in patent litigation matters in U.S. district courts and PTAB proceedings.
• Engage in client development and firm activities.

Venable LLP's Intellectual Property Litigation Group seeks an associate to join our team in the New York or Washington, D.C. office. We are open to candidates across a range of experience levels, from junior through senior associates.

The qualified candidate possesses a Ph.D. in Chemistry and experience working with sophisticated technologies involving pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, chemistry, chemical engineering, materials science, or related disciplines. The ideal candidate has an interest in complex intellectual property and patent litigation matters involving life sciences technologies. Prior patent litigation experience is preferred but not required.

The successful candidate will work closely with partners and other members of the Intellectual Property Litigation Group on a broad range of patent litigation and related intellectual property matters. Representative responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

• Conducting technical and legal analyses of patents, scientific literature, and prior art in support of litigation strategy.
• Working with clients, scientific experts, and technical consultants on complex life sciences matters.
• Assisting with the development of litigation strategy and case preparation.
• Drafting and reviewing legal briefs, motions, discovery materials, and other case-related filings.
• Assisting with patent litigation matters in U.S. district courts and proceedings before the Patent Trial and Appeal Board.
• Participating in client development initiatives and other firm activities.

The successful candidate will have strong analytical, research, writing, and communication skills, along with the ability to understand and explain complex scientific concepts. Candidates must have a Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school, a Ph.D. in Chemistry, and be admitted to and in good standing with the relevant local Bar. Registration to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office is preferred but not required. The salary range for associate positions is $215,000 to $355,000. The actual salary offered will be based on a number of job-related factors including, but not limited to, years of related experience, level of education, skills, credentials and certifications, responsibilities and performance.
