Job summary

Dorsey & Whitney LLP seeks a Practice Group Director to drive the success of Patent, Trademark, Regulatory Affairs, Labor & Employment, and Construction Litigation groups. This hybrid, high-visibility role partners with HR, Finance, Marketing and KM to align priorities and drive people-centric processes across groups.

You will oversee workflow design, staffing, budgeting, and performance management while supporting practice initiatives, with emphasis on collaboration and strategic leadership

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required.
• 10–15 years of supervisory and managerial experience.
• 7+ years in patent and trademark operations and docketing.
• Thorough knowledge of U.S. and foreign patent/trademark rules and procedures.
• Strong leadership, project management, and stakeholder management skills.
• Excellent collaboration and communication abilities; budgeting and performance reporting experience.
• Familiarity with AI tools and evaluating new technologies.

Responsibilities

• Act as strategic advisor to Practice Group leadership on operational matters.
• Lead workflow design, staffing models, quality controls, and resource allocation.
• Coordinate with HR, Finance, Marketing, Knowledge Management and others to implement firm initiatives.
• Lead people-focused initiatives including onboarding, succession planning, and career development.
• Monitor budgets, reporting, profitability, and matter management; drive operational enhancements.
• Facilitate client reporting, budget tracking, and cross-practice collaborations.
• Promote communication and address morale, retention, and performance challenges.
