Job summary

UMC Health System in Texas seeks an IOM Technologist to perform intraoperative monitoring for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures. You will set up modalities and coordinate with the reading physician during surgeries.

Required: Bachelor's degree with EEG registry, ABRET registration, and BLS; plus at least one year of intraoperative neuro-monitoring experience. You will collaborate with anesthesia, surgeons, and OR staff.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of intraoperative neuro-monitoring experience.
• ABRET registry and BLS certification.

Responsibilities

• Set up modality necessary to monitor at risk structures.
• Position equipment so observers can view monitors while keeping the surgeon in view.
• Coordinate with reading physician before and during procedures.
• Maintain supplies.
• Navigate USMON to schedule data collection, physician chat, remote viewer, and documentation.
• Store all patient documents used for the procedure in the Neuro share drive.
• Perform all other duties related to Anesthesia.

Job Summary

The IOM Technologist is responsible for performing intraoperative monitoring activities in accordance to the policies set by UMC hospital and the Neuro-monitoring Lab for preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative procedures. Must demonstrate the ability to deviate from established protocols as needed.

Job Specific Responsibilities

Daily assignments may include but are not limited to:

• Set up modality necessary to monitor at risk structures
• Equipment placement so that technologist can observe Anesthesia's monitors along with surgeon out of the way
• Communicate and coordinate with reading physician before and during all procedures
• Maintain supplies
• Navigate USMON- required to schedule data collection, physician chat, remote viewer for reading physician, and documentation
• Store all patient documents used for procedure in the Neuro share drive
• All other assigned duties related to Anesthesia

Education and Experience

• Bachelor's degree + current registry in EEG
• +1 year of experience in Intraoperative Neuro-monitoring

Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations

• Registry in EP by the American Board of Registration of Electroencephalographic & Evoked Potential Technologies (ABRET)
• Basic Life Skills Certification (BLS)

Skills and Abilities

• Evidence of competency in the following modalities: IONM, somatosensory evoked potentials, spontaneous and evoked electromyography, electroencephalography, and motor evoked potentials
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only a limited standardization exists
• Ability to read and interpret instructions that may be furnished in written or oral diagram or scheduled form
• High degree of proficiency in specialized EEG and/or evoked potential procedures

Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

Ability to interact cordially and effectively with all patients of the Neurophysiology Lab. This role will interact with department physicians, residents, anesthesia team, and OR staff

Physical Capabilities

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to push, pull, and lift up to 50 pounds. There are extended periods of time standing, sitting, or frequent walking. Visual acuity (computers, typing, reading, writing) is required for assigned duties.

Environmental/Working Conditions

• This position is subject to indoor temperature changes. Work done intraoperative is performed in a high- risk area for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
