Job description

About FocusGrowth

FocusGrowth Asset Management, LP is an SEC-registered investment adviser specializing in senior secured lending and alternative investments in the U.S. cannabis sector. We are seeking an investor relations and marketing professional to support the firm’s capital formation efforts, serve as the day-to-day point of contact for existing investors, and own the firm’s marketing materials and brand. This is a combined role on a lean team, working closely with the firm’s principals and embedded with the investment team.

Responsibilities

Capital formation and pipeline management

  • Own the firm’s investor CRM: log outreach and touchpoints, set and manage follow-up timelines, and keep pipeline status current.
  • Prepare weekly pipeline reports for principals covering who was contacted, where each investor stands, next steps, and timing.
  • Identify and research prospective investors across institutional and wealth channels, including institutions, consultants, OCIOs, family offices, RIAs, financial advisors, private wealth managers, and TAMPs, and build targeted outreach lists.
  • Develop and execute marketing campaigns aimed at private wealth managers, financial advisors, and RIAs, in coordination with the firm’s principals.
  • Pitch the firm’s strategy and fund offerings to prospective investors, first alongside principals and then independently.
  • Coordinate due diligence: manage the investor data room and track open diligence requests from investors.
  • Maintain the firm’s DDQ and respond to operational due diligence requests alongside the COO/CFO.

Investor relations

  • Serve as the day-to-day point of contact for existing investors and respond to inquiries promptly and accurately.
  • Deliver regular portfolio and fund updates to existing investors through quarterly letters, calls, and ad hoc communications.
  • Coordinate subscription documents and onboarding of new investors with the fund administrator.
  • Coordinate with the fund administrator on capital calls, distributions, and capital account questions.
  • Plan and manage investor meetings and annual meetings, including logistics, materials, and follow-up.

Marketing and brand

  • Maintain and update firm marketing materials, including pitch decks, tear sheets, track record, case studies, and fund overviews, so they always reflect current performance and portfolio activity.
  • Draft investor-facing written content such as letters, updates, and market commentary for principal review.
  • Manage the firm’s website and LinkedIn content so it stays current and consistent with firm messaging.
  • Own the firm’s conference strategy: evaluate and select which capital-raising and industry events to attend, and manage logistics, materials, and follow-up.
  • Work with Compliance to ensure all marketing materials and communications comply with the SEC Marketing Rule and firm policies.

Investment team integration

  • Work as an embedded member of the investment team: attend deal and portfolio meetings and stay current on pipeline, portfolio developments, and market trends so investor communications are accurate and timely.
  • Translate investment team work, such as deal summaries, portfolio updates, and market views, into investor-ready messaging.
  • Take on special projects as the firm grows.

Qualifications

  • A self-starter who thrives on a lean team: spots what needs to get done, builds the process to do it, and drives it to completion with minimal direction, taking on whatever the firm needs.
  • 4–7 years of experience in investor relations, capital formation, placement, investment banking, private credit, private equity, or a related role.
  • Working knowledge of private credit and alternative investments, enough to speak credibly with investors about strategy, portfolio, risk, and returns.
  • Comfortable articulating the opportunity and risks of lending to the U.S. cannabis industry.
  • Experience with or relationships in the wealth channel (RIAs, financial advisors, private wealth managers, and TAMPs), in addition to institutional investors.
  • Familiarity with the marketing rules that apply to private funds, including the SEC Marketing Rule.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization, with a track record of managing many relationships, deadlines, and follow-ups at once without anything slipping.
  • Polished written and verbal communication skills, comfortable presenting to and building relationships with institutional and high-net-worth investors.
  • High degree of discretion with confidential investor and portfolio information.
  • Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel, plus familiarity with CRM platforms.

Location: Largely remote, with occasional travel.
