Job description

Firm Overview:

Axar Capital Management LP is an employee-owned $2.9 billion opportunistic credit investment firm focused on complex and special situations in the U.S. middle market. Founded in 2015, Axar partners with endowments, foundations, pension funds and other sophisticated investors to deliver high-conviction, value-oriented investment solutions that capitalize on inefficiencies in overlooked segments of credit markets.

Axar’s investment strategy is anchored by deep fundamental analysis, rigorous risk management, and active engagement with portfolio companies. The firm takes a hands-on, operationally aware approach to value creation - working closely with Financial Sponsors and management teams to drive performance, improve capital structures, and unlock long-term growth potential. By combining domain expertise with execution discipline, Axar seeks to generate attractive, asymmetric returns with low correlation to broader credit markets.

Position Summary:

Axar is seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Investment Analyst to join its investment team. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting in-depth investment analysis, industry research and investment memo composition for prospective investments, as well as supporting the monitoring of existing portfolio positions. The candidate will balance time between the evaluation of liquid credit investments and structured hybrid Capital Solutions. This role offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the firm's investment process and gain exposure to event-driven investments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Investment Analysis: Perform comprehensive analysis of financial statements and all relevant data to evaluate a company’s financial condition and business prospects.
  • Industry Research: Conduct thorough industry and market research to assess and identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
  • Financial Modeling: Develop and maintain financial models to project cash flows, liquidity, and financing alternatives.
  • Legal Analysis: In-depth analysis of credit documents, shareholders agreements, transaction related documents and structural opportunities or issues within a capital structure.
  • Investment Recommendations: Prepare detailed investment memos and present findings directly to the firm’s Investment Committee, providing clear and concise recommendations.
  • Portfolio Monitoring: Monitor and report on the performance of portfolio companies, staying abreast of any developments that may impact their financial health or our investment thesis.
  • Risk Assessment: Identify and evaluate potential risks associated with investment opportunities, proposing strategies to mitigate identified risks.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Accounting, or a related field.
  • Experience: 2-4 years in credit analysis, investment banking, PE or other related roles.
  • Skills and Other Key Traits:
  • Strong analytical and quantitative skills, with proficiency in financial modeling and valuation techniques.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex financial concepts clearly.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Deep technology skillset across Bloomberg, AI tools, Excel, etc.
  • Passion for financial markets.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with distressed debt, special situations, event driven or restructuring is highly desirable.
  • Experience with deep-dive industry research.
  • Experience leveraging AI into the investment due diligence process.

Compensation:

Expected base salary range of $150k-250k plus annual discretionary bonus.
