Job summary

Dallas County is seeking an experienced investigator to support the Assistant District Attorney in researching and preparing moderate to complex cases. The role includes gathering data, locating evidence, preparing witnesses, and coordinating trials to support disposition.

The position requires a certified peace officer, firearm proficiency, and the ability to communicate effectively in writing and speech. Background checks and potential polygraph/psychological exams may be required.

Qualifications

• GED or high school diploma required.
• Bachelor’s degree in a job-related field.
• Two years peace officer experience, OR Intermediate Peace Officer Certificate from T.C.L.E.O.S.E. with no experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists the Assistant District Attorney in gathering data, identifying factors and solutions for moderate to complex or specialized cases.
• Locates and develops evidence to assist in plea negotiations.
• Plans and organizes work independently for trials or sections and prepares cases for disposition.
• Assists in reconstructing events, sequences, and time elements in criminal cases.
• Locates, interviews, serves subpoenas, and coordinates witnesses and related logistics.
• Collects and prepares physical evidence for trial; reviews medical autopsy and forensic reports.
• Assists in jury selection and trial phases.
• Trains Level I investigators and acts as lead when multiple investigators are required.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
