Job summary

The NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene seeks an Investigator to serve as Clearance Administrator for the Central Clearance Unit who will conduct comprehensive background checks for child care staff.

The role involves reviewing applications, managing caseloads, drafting determination letters, and providing technical assistance to operators seeking licenses while handling confidential information with care.

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or equivalent and two years of satisfactory experience as an investigator, or associate degree or 60 semester credits, or equivalent combination.
• Experience evaluating education, experience and personal qualifications bearing upon character and fitness for employment, or locating evidence or information.

Responsibilities

• Review background clearance applications for completeness and accuracy and process checks within designated timeframe.
• Manage a caseload of background clearance requests for licensed and prospective child care providers.
• Examine, analyze and verify records, documents and other information.
• Draft determination letters and conduct outreach to providers and staff regarding clearances.
• Provide technical assistance to child care operators and staff regarding background clearances to attain or renew licenses.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of confidential information and update databases.
• Liaise between City and State agencies, community groups, parents and the public related to Early Childhood Education.
