Job summary

The New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene is seeking an Investigator to serve as Clearance Administrator for the Central Clearance Unit. The role involves reviewing clearance applications, managing caseloads, examining records, drafting letters, and providing technical assistance to child care operators to attain or maintain licenses.

Candidates should have a four-year high school diploma or equivalent and relevant experience; 55-a program eligibility is noted, and federal loan

Qualifications

• Four-year high school diploma or educational equivalent with related investigative experience.
• Associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited college.
• Education/experience equivalent to above; substitutions allowed per policy.

Responsibilities

• Review background clearance applications for completeness and accuracy and process checks within designated timeframe.
• Manage a caseload of background clearance requests for licensed and prospective providers.
• Examine, analyze and verify records, documents and other information.
• Draft determination letters and conduct outreach to providers and staff about clearances.
• Provide technical assistance to operators and staff regarding background clearances for licensing.
• Ensure proper storage and handling of confidential information and update databases per protocols.
• Liaise between City/State agencies, community groups, parents, and public regarding Early Childhood Education.
