Job summary

The University of South Carolina seeks an Investigator I to join the Office of Civil Rights & Title IX, supporting a centralized civil rights function and enforcing university policies against discrimination, harassment, and sexual misconduct.

Under the Director of Investigations and Resolutions, you will handle sensitive cases, communicate findings clearly, and ensure privacy and compliance. JD preferred; higher education experience is a plus.

Qualifications

  • Handles difficult and sensitive employee situations with refined judgment while maintaining confidentiality and adhering to data privacy laws and policies.
  • Manages multiple ongoing cases and prepares concise, organized, and analytical reports.
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and collaborative communication with staff, faculty, and students.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Maxient case management system.

Responsibilities

  • Handle investigations involving discrimination and sexual harassment in accordance with university policies.
  • Coordinate with offices across academic and administrative units to collect information.
  • Prepare and present findings clearly and professionally.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and ensure compliance with privacy laws.

  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and collaborative communication skills when working with staff, faculty, and students across academic and administrative departments and offices.
  • Knowledge of and experience with the Maxient case management system.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Prefer JD. Experience conducting investigations alleging discrimination.
  • Experience with or knowledge of trauma-informed investigation practices.
  • Experience working in higher education.
