Job summary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two years of law enforcement experience; Basic P.O.S.T. Certification required.
  • Proficient in investigative report writing and documentation.
  • Strong analytical and investigative skills.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and preserve evidence and investigative information.
  • Ability to conduct professional interviews and communicate effectively with diverse backgrounds.
  • Willingness to handle challenging responsibilities and respond to critical incidents.
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-stress environments and de-escalate volatile situations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and 24-hour operational schedules.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations of inmate-on-inmate and inmate-on-staff incidents and other criminal investigations involving OPSO personnel or individuals in custody.
  • Abide by the U.S. Constitution, state laws, and OPSO policies.
  • Gather, preserve, and analyze physical, documentary, and digital evidence; review surveillance and records.
  • Conduct interviews with witnesses, victims, involved parties, and staff.
  • Maintain organized investigative files and prepare detailed reports.
  • Identify critical issues and vulnerabilities; apply sound investigative techniques.
  • Coordinate with Deputies, other OPSO divisions, and stakeholders to address concerns and prevent incidents.
  • Coordinate with the District Attorney’s Office and other agencies for evidence, reports, and testimony.
  • Coordinate search warrants and arrest suspects as needed.
  • Testify in court regarding evidence and investigative findings.
  • Maintain confidentiality and security of investigative information and evidence.
  • Report significant findings to the appropriate authority.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
