Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of law enforcement experience. Basic P.O.S.T. Certification required.
  • Proficient in investigative report writing and documentation.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.
  • Ability to collect, evaluate, and preserve evidence and investigative information.
  • Ability to conduct professional interviews and communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability and willingness to take on challenging responsibilities and respond appropriately to critical incidents.
  • Good moral character and integrity.
  • High level of confidentiality and discretion.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Exemplary written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in high-stress environments and de-escalate potentially volatile situations.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, weekends, and 24-hour operational schedules as required.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct investigations of inmate-on-inmate and inmate-on-staff incidents and other criminal conduct involving OPSO personnel or individuals in custody.
  • Abide by Federal and State constitutions, laws, and OPSO policies.
  • Gather, preserve, and analyze evidence; review surveillance footage and records to establish facts.
  • Conduct interviews with witnesses, victims, involved parties, employees, and individuals in custody.
  • Maintain organized investigative files and prepare detailed reports of activities, evidence, and findings.
  • Use investigative techniques to identify issues, risks, and vulnerabilities and reach logical conclusions.
  • Coordinate with Deputies, corrections staff, OPSO divisions, and partners to address concerns and deter future incidents.
  • Coordinate with District Attorney’s Office and other agencies for prosecution support and testimony.
  • Coordinate search/arrest warrants and arrest suspects as needed.
  • Testify in court regarding evidence and investigative findings.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of investigative information and evidence.
  • Identify significant findings and promptly report to the appropriate authority.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
