Inventory Specialist Job Description
The Inventory Specialist is responsible for executing, monitoring, and training store staff on inventory best practices and standard operating procedures across the entire store, including front end and pharmacy. Key duties include supporting pharmacy inventory activities such as receiving, counting, ordering, and facilitating returns. They champion On-Shelf Availability and oversee all in-store inventory processes, ensuring planogram accuracy.
They review and coordinate report and system application usage to ensure accurate front end and pharmacy on-hand balances and pricing. The role involves executing and maintaining asset protection techniques, filing claims for overages, shortages, order errors, or damaged goods, including prescription drugs.
In designated stores, the specialist may open and close the store, handle system start-ups, cash handling, cashier responsibilities, and ensure the store is ready for business.
Customer Experience
- Engages customers by greeting and assisting with products and services. When acting as the leader on duty, resolves customer issues to ensure a positive experience.
- Models customer service best practices, including interpersonal habits and Walgreens service traits, to deliver a delightful customer experience.
Operations
- Executes and coaches team members on inventory management processes, including creating and receiving orders.
- Manages delivery scans, focusing on One Box receiving, and takes appropriate actions for delivery discrepancies.
- Verifies pharmacy shipments, posts pharmacy orders, and reports shortages or damages.
- Completes On-Shelf Availability processes, including disposals, call-ins, and vendor returns.
- Supports pharmacy inventory activities, including recalls, returns, and transfers, under pharmacist supervision.
- Executes pricing activities, including price changes and markdowns, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
- Supports ordering processes, maintains inventory counts, and ensures compliance with laws regarding regulated products.
- Prepares for and assists in physical inventories, maintains store cleanliness and merchandising, and supports package delivery activities.
- When serving as leader on duty, manages POS transactions, returns, refunds, and cash handling.
- Maintains respectful relationships with coworkers, adheres to policies, and completes additional assigned tasks.
Training & Personal Development
- Attends training sessions and completes e-learning modules, including safety training.
- Obtains and maintains necessary pharmacy licenses or certifications.
Communications
- Acts as a liaison between management and staff, coaching on inventory systems, and communicating tasks and issues when acting as leader on duty.
Qualifications
- Six months of prior Walgreens experience or one year of retail experience.
- Fluent in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
- Achieved a satisfactory performance review with no disciplinary actions in the past year (internal candidates).
- Attention to detail, multitasking ability, and operational problem-solving skills.
