Job summary

Comfort Systems USA Southwest is seeking an Inventory/Material Lead to support shop and field operations by efficiently managing materials, both new and surplus. You will handle requisitions, track overages, and ensure safe storage of gas cylinders and forklift-managed items.

In this role you will maintain clean records, stage materials for fabrication, and assist teammates while adhering to safety programs and company policies. A background in fabrication or construction materials is preferred.

Qualifications

• 2 years of fabrication, construction, or material handling experience preferred.
• Basic proficiency in Word and Excel is a plus.
• Ability to read and interpret documents and forms is desirable.

Responsibilities

• Manage material overage spreadsheets and keep information current.
• Generate material requisitions and submit to purchasing.
• Manage gas cylinders at the shop, including dispensing and returning cylinders.
• Perform forklift inspections and operate equipment as needed.
• Dispense items from materials cage to fabricators and field personnel.
• Understand requisition and PO processes to function independently.
• Stage materials for fabrication with forklift where required.
• Maintain yard overflow organization and cleanliness.
• Support safety programs and comply with company safety rules.
• Maintain stored inventory and backstock documentation.

Job description

The purpose of the Inventory/Material Lead position is to provide day-to-day operational support for both the shop and field through the effective utilization of new and surplus materials.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Manage material overage spreadsheets and keep all information current.
• Generate material requisitions and submit them to the purchasing department.
• Manage gas cylinders at the shop location, including dispensing and returning cylinders.
• Competently complete forklift inspections.
• Dispense items from the materials cage to fabricators and field personnel.
• Gain a working understanding of the requisition and purchase order process to function independently.
• Acquire or possess a basic understanding of construction documents.
• Assist team members with tasks beyond the descriptions outlined above as needed.
• Maintain a clean driving record.
• Stage materials for the fabrication team, including items requiring a forklift (e.g., steel shapes, strut, and all-thread rod).
• Occasionally take trips away from the shop to fulfill position obligations.
• Support the Safety Director and ensure full compliance with company safety programs.
• Manage stored inventory items, document usage, and maintain sufficient backstock.
• Maintain yard overflow, taking full responsibility for its organization and cleanliness.

• Customer Relations: Promptly address all customer concerns in a manner that ensures problem resolution and maintains long-term positive relationships.
• Company Relations: Build and maintain rapport and positive working relationships with field, office, and management personnel to resolve problems, explore opportunities, and maximize productivity.

• Education and Experience:
  • 2 years of fabrication, construction, or material handling experience preferred.
  • Basic proficiency in Word and Excel is a plus.
• Language Skills:

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
• Mathematical Skills:
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical functions, such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
