Job summary

Krueger Sheet Metal Co. is seeking a Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator to manage purchasing, receiving, and organizing materials for shop fabrication and field operations.

You will coordinate job-specific material purchases, maintain inventory levels, verify shipments, and ensure proper labeling, storage, and distribution to the correct job or department. Strong attention to detail and vendor communication are essential.

Qualifications

  • Experience in purchasing, inventory control, receiving, warehouse operations, or related field preferred.
  • Experience in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or similar environment is a plus.
  • Ability to read and understand material descriptions, dimensions, quantities, and specifications.
  • Strong organizational and record-keeping skills.
  • Good attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple jobs, orders, and priorities simultaneously.
  • Comfortable communicating with vendors, office personnel, shop employees, and field personnel.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Excel and email.
  • Valid driver’s license may be required for occasional material pickups or deliveries.

Responsibilities

  • Review material requirements for shop and field jobs.
  • Purchase raw materials, supplies, hardware for projects.
  • Coordinate with project staff to confirm material needs.
  • Obtain pricing from approved vendors and select cost-effective options.
  • Track job-specific purchases and assign materials to jobs.
  • Monitor outstanding orders and follow up on delivery dates.
  • Communicate delays or issues to the appropriate personnel.
  • Maintain inventory of shop and field materials.
  • Monitor inventory levels and reorder when needed.
  • Perform periodic counts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Organize inventory for easy location.
  • Receive shipments and verify against POs.
  • Inspect received items for damage or shortages.
  • Document received materials and report discrepancies.
  • Label materials and ensure proper storage location.
  • Ensure materials are not left in aisles.
  • Keep material staging areas organized and safe.
  • Help resolve discrepancies.
  • Maintain relationships with vendors.
  • Help improve purchasing and inventory procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

The Purchasing & Inventory Coordinator is responsible for purchasing, receiving, organizing, and maintaining materials for both shop fabrication and field installation operations. This position coordinates job-specific material purchases, maintains appropriate inventory levels of regularly stocked materials, receives incoming shipments, and helps ensure materials are properly identified, stored, and distributed to the correct job or department.

Purchasing
  • Review material requirements for individual shop and field jobs.
  • Purchase raw materials, supplies, hardware, and other items required for specific projects.
  • Coordinate with project managers, estimators, shop personnel, and field supervisors to confirm material requirements.
  • Obtain pricing and availability from approved vendors and select appropriate purchasing options based on cost, availability, and project requirements.
  • Track job-specific purchases and ensure materials are assigned to the appropriate job.
  • Monitor outstanding orders and follow up with vendors regarding delivery dates, backorders, and shortages.
  • Communicate material delays or purchasing issues to the appropriate personnel.
Inventory Management
  • Maintain inventory of regularly stocked shop and field materials, supplies, hardware, and consumables.
  • Monitor inventory levels and identify items that need to be reordered.
  • Perform periodic inventory counts and investigate discrepancies.
  • Help organize inventory so materials can be easily located and identified.
Receiving & Material Handling
  • Receive incoming material shipments and verify quantities and items against purchase orders and packing slips.
  • Inspect received materials for obvious damage, shortages, or incorrect items.
  • Properly document received materials and communicate discrepancies to purchasing, vendors, or management.
  • Label and identify materials as needed, including job‑specific materials.
  • Ensure received materials are moved to the appropriate storage location.
  • Help maintain an organized and safe shop, storage areas, and material staging areas.
  • Ensure materials are not unnecessarily left in aisles, work areas, or other locations where they could interfere with shop operations.
Job & Material Coordination
  • Help ensure job‑specific materials are kept together and clearly identified.
  • Coordinate with shop and field personnel regarding material availability and delivery.
  • Assist in locating materials and determining whether an item is available from inventory or needs to be purchased.
  • Maintain accurate records of material purchases, receipts, and inventory.
Additional Responsibilities
  • Maintain professional relationships with vendors and suppliers.
  • Assist with resolving purchasing, receiving, and material discrepancies.
  • Help develop and improve purchasing and inventory procedures.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe material storage environment.
  • Perform other duties related to purchasing, inventory, receiving, and material coordination as assigned.

Compensation
  1. $24.00 / hour
