Qualifications

  • Detail-oriented and organized candidate with focus on accuracy in inventory data.
  • Experience or training in inventory control processes and procedures.
  • Background in electronic data processing related to inventory control.
  • Experience or coursework in public relations or communications is a plus.
  • Equivalent education/experience acceptable for minimum qualifications.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate statewide inventory systems and processes.
  • Receive, inspect, distribute, and maintain materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and fixed assets.
  • Enter, update, verify, and track inventory information using computer systems.
  • Prepare annual inventory reports for the State Auditor.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the receipt and disposition of surplus property and assist with salvage disposal.
  • Identify and resolve problems related to inventory, supplies, equipment, and distribution.
  • Coordinate disposal of obsolete or unusable equipment with the Investment Recovery Officer.
  • Conduct random physical audits of inventory at locations statewide.
  • Provide training and guidance on inventory procedures to staff.
  • Serve as a resource for safety, training, and public relations activities.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Inventory Control Specialist to coordinate, analyze, and maintain inventory operations across multiple locations statewide. This position is responsible for receiving, inspecting, distributing, tracking, and maintaining materials, supplies, equipment, and fixed assets.

The Inventory Control Specialist will ensure inventory records are accurate and up to date, conduct physical audits, monitor surplus and salvage activities, and work with field offices, warehouses, administrative services, and other departments to improve inventory processes and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, analyze, and control statewide inventory systems and processes.
  • Receive, inspect, distribute, and maintain materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Maintain accurate records of equipment and fixed assets.
  • Enter, update, verify, and track inventory information using computer systems.
  • Prepare annual inventory reports for the State Auditor.
  • Develop, implement, and enforce inventory control policies and procedures.
  • Monitor the receipt and disposition of surplus property and assist with salvage disposal.
  • Identify and resolve problems related to inventory, supplies, equipment, and distribution.
  • Coordinate with the Investment Recovery Officer regarding disposal of obsolete, damaged, or unusable equipment.
  • Evaluate inventory and distribution systems and recommend process improvements.
  • Conduct random physical audits of inventory at locations throughout the state.
  • Coordinate with field, district/branch offices, administrative services, and warehouses regarding inventory procedures and operating practices.
  • Attend district meetings to provide instruction and guidance regarding inventory control, salvage, and surplus disposal procedures.
  • Provide training and support to employees regarding inventory policies and procedures.
  • Serve as a resource for safety, training, and public relations activities.
  • Handle inquiries and communications professionally with employees, government officials, vendors, and the general public.
  • Maintain confidentiality when handling sensitive information.
Minimum Qualifications

Candidates must meet one of the following qualification pathways:

  • 18 months of training or 18 months of experience in inventory control, plus:
  • 3 courses or 9 months of experience in electronic data processing related to inventory control; and
  • 1 course or 3 months of experience in public relations.
OR
  • 9 months of experience as an Inventory Control Specialist in the applicable classification.
OR
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that meets the minimum class qualifications.
