Job summary

Chicago Tube & Iron is seeking a detail-oriented Inventory Analyst to help manage inventory levels, anticipate customer needs, and support efficient branch operations. This role suits someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems, and collaborating across purchasing, operations, transportation, and other CTI teams.

You’ll impact inventory availability, purchasing decisions, and our ability to provide consistent, reliable service to customers, with opportunities to improve utilization

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or 5 years of related work experience.
• Experience in steel distribution, manufacturing, inventory management, purchasing, or supply chain preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Proficient with Microsoft Excel.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Review forecasts for major customers and act to maintain adequate inventory levels.
• Monitor and manage common and special inventory to support customer and operational needs.
• Coordinate with Corporate Purchasing and other CTI locations on inventory requirements.
• Monitor aging inventory and identify opportunities to improve utilization.
• Review open purchase orders and decide on cancellation, rescheduling, or expediting.
• Evaluate mill overages and decide on material acceptance or handling.
• Process C-Fab orders and related inventory transactions as needed.
• Maintain stock screen memos, inventory reserves, and other inventory information.
• Communicate with transportation personnel to support material movement and delivery needs.
• Assist with physical inventory and other operational tasks.

Chicago Tube & Iron is seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Inventory Analystto help manage inventory levels, anticipate customer needs, and support efficient branch operations. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working with data, solving problems, and collaborating across purchasing, operations, transportation, and other branch teams.

As an Inventory Analyst, you’ll have a direct impact on inventory availability, purchasing decisions, and our ability to provide the consistent, reliable service our customers depend on.

What You’ll Do

• Review forecasts for major customers and take appropriate action to maintain adequate inventory levels.
• Monitor and manage both common and special inventory to support customer and operational needs.
• Partner with Corporate Purchasing and personnel at other CTI locations to coordinate inventory requirements.
• Monitor and manage aging inventory, identifying opportunities to improve inventory utilization.
• Review open purchase orders and determine when orders should be canceled, rescheduled, or expedited.
• Evaluate mill overages and determine whether additional material should be accepted or how received overages should be handled.
• Process C-Fab orders and related inventory transactions as needed.
• Maintain accurate stock screen memos, inventory reserves, and other inventory information.
• Communicate effectively with transportation personnel to support material movement and delivery needs.
• Assist with physical inventory activities and other operational needs as assigned.

What We’re Looking For

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field or five years of related work experience preferred.
• Previous experience in steel distribution, manufacturing, inventory management, purchasing, or supply chain preferred.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Excel.
• Effective written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and work collaboratively across departments.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This position works in both office and warehouse environments. When entering warehouse areas, team members are required to wear appropriate PPE and follow all safety requirements.

The position may require standing and walking for approximately 2–3 hours per day while performing inventory-related functions and occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
