Job summary

Par Pacific Holdings is seeking an Inventory Analyst to support multi‑state inventory movements in a refining context. You will work with Commercial and Accounting teams to ensure accurate subledger entries, perform reconciliations, and assess P&L impacts. Proficiency with SAP and Power BI is expected, along with strong Excel skills.

The role emphasizes GAAP understanding, attention to detail, and independent work in a fast‑paced environment across Wyoming, Washington, and Hawaii regions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business preferred.
  • Work experience in accounting/finance preferred.
  • Experience in the refining industry preferred.
  • Understanding of GAAP and ability to apply it to accounting needs.
  • SAP experience at a minimum.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word).
  • Willingness to learn terminal, refinery processes and related logistics.
  • Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure inventory movement processes function as expected.
  • Collaborate with Commercial and Accounting teams to understand activity and its impact on inventory movements.
  • Analyze movement orders, inspection reports, and third‑party inventory statements.
  • Oversee entry of inventory movements in subledger and system of record.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve movement imbalances.
  • Serve as liaison between movement owners and Inventory Accounting.
  • Perform monthly inventory and exchange reconciliations between subledger and system of record.
  • Utilize Power BI to assist with reconciliations and reporting.
  • Understand P&L and yield impacts from inventory adjustments.
  • Review current period purchases/settlements related to title transfer and liabilities.
  • Perform required state and governmental reporting.
  • Coordinate and support monthly inventory closing process.
  • Identify process improvements and automation opportunities.

Overview

Full job description for an Inventory Analyst at a growth-oriented energy company. The role involves providing key services in inventory processes across several regions, collaborating with Commercial and Accounting teams, and operating within a multi-state environment covering Wyoming, Washington, and Hawaii. The analyst will have exposure to SAP and other financial analysis processes, contributing to refining and logistics asset inventory management, and ensuring accurate representation of inventories on the balance sheet.

Responsibilities
  • Ensure that the inventory movement process is functioning as expected.
  • Work closely with various departments to understand commercial activity and its impact on daily inventory movements.
  • Analyze and interpret movement orders, inspection reports, and third‑party inventory statements.
  • Oversee various groups’ methods of entering inventory movements in the subledger and system of record.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and provide solutions to movement imbalances.
  • Act as a liaison between the groups responsible for the movements and Inventory Accounting.
  • Perform monthly inventory and exchange reconciliations between the subledger and system of record.
  • Utilize advanced tools such as Power BI to assist with reconciliations.
  • Understand and communicate the P&L and yield impacts related to inventory adjustments.
  • Review the accounting of current period purchases and settlements as it relates to title transfer, current liabilities, and overall balance‑sheet presentation.
  • Perform required state and governmental reporting.
  • Coordinate and ensure the monthly closing process attributable to inventory movements is efficient.
  • Identify and support process improvements and automation opportunities.
  • Assist with special projects, as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field preferred.
  • Work experience in accounting/finance preferred.
  • Experience working in the refining industry preferred.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), theories, and ability to apply them to the Corporation’s accounting needs required.
  • Willingness to learn the business processes of hydrocarbon terminals, refineries, and their associated modes of transporting products.
  • Familiarity with yield and/or inventory accounting preferred.
  • SAP experience at a minimum.
  • Proficiency with MS Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, etc.) required.
  • Strong attention to detail and organization.
  • Demonstrated ability to research, solve problems, and take initiative to recommend process improvements.
  • Ability to work well independently and deal effectively in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Fluent in English, both oral and written required.
