Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Ensures images are properly coded and tracked through PACS and archived.
• Interacts with patients and staff, providing clear communication and support.
• Identifies patients using two identifiers and follows universal protocol.
• Reviews patient history and physician orders to optimize data acquisition.
• Documents patient history in the electronic record as required.
• Maintains daily quality control for point-of-care testing devices.
• Communicates procedures clearly to patients to alleviate concerns.
• Assists with positioning and radiographic techniques for diagnostics and interventions.
• Ensures proper preparation, equipment operation, and patient monitoring systems.
• Operates in first assist position when needed.
• Supports aseptic technique and patient safety with time-out processes.
• Has basic knowledge of equipment and supply operation.
• Provides standby call coverage as scheduled.

UPMC East is currently hiring a full-time Invasive Cardiac Technologist to work 4 ten-hour daylight shifts - Monday thru Friday. This position will also have on-call evening, weekend and holiday responsibility.

Purpose

Performs imaging procedures at a technical level not requiring constant supervision. Competently performs a variety of technical procedures that require independent judgment, ingenuity and initiative.

Responsibilities

• Ensures all images within his/her area of responsibility are properly coded and tracked through the PACS, and are properly networked to appropriate electronic record for archival and interpretation, and all charges are adequately entered for the procedures performed.
• Demonstrates a strong ability to interact with both patients and co-workers, while displaying a high level of caring, listening, dignity and respect.
• Identifies all patients properly by using two patient identifiers and utilizes universal protocol when performing procedures.
• Reviews patient history and assesses physician orders, applying specific departmental protocols for optimal results in the acquisition of data.
• Documents patient history in electronic record as required.
• Maintains point of care testing standards, including daily quality control, for devices used for procedures.
• Demonstrates the ability to communicate instructions to patients in a clear and concise manner and explain procedures to help allay the patient's fears and solicit their cooperation.
• Demonstrate proper positioning and appropriate radiographic techniques for all diagnostic and interventional procedures.
• Exhibits a clear understanding of correct patient preparation, equipment operations and patient monitoring systems.
• Demonstrates competency in functioning in the first assist position.
• Fosters an environment that supports aseptic technique during procedures and patient safety with the incorporation of a time-out process.
• Must demonstrate a basic knowledge of the operation of both equipment and supplies.
• Provides stand by call coverage, as scheduled, in accordance with system-wide stand by call procedure/policy.
• Practices with attentiveness to radiation safety for the patient as well as others in the procedure room including appropriate use of lead shielding and monitoring devices.
• Assures documentation of patient radiation exposure in electronic record.
