North Slope Borough School District seeks an educator to lead Iñupiaq language and culture education, enhancing student achievement within a culturally sustaining classroom.

The role requires individualized instruction, frequent assessments, and collaboration with families and the community. A preferred Alaska Type M certificate and active Iñupiaq study involvement support ongoing language development.

Qualifications

• Associate’s Degree in Iñupiaq Studies or Education preferred.
• Alaska Type M teaching certificate preferred.
• Active standing in an approved Iñupiaq Studies or Education program required.
• Fluent Iñupiaq preferred; conversational ability required.
• Knowledge of language acquisition theories and culturally responsive practices.

Responsabilités

• Plan for instructional needs of all students with high expectations.
• Implement district curriculum promoting language development and reasoning.
• Use varied assessments to inform instruction and create an optimal learning environment.
• Apply Iñupiaq pedagogical principles.
• Develop partnerships with parents and the community.
• Collaborate with colleagues and community/parent volunteers.
• Model and teach Iñupiaq values with sensitivity to diversity.
• Educate the whole child—intellectually, spiritually, socially, culturally, emotionally, physically.
• Engage in ongoing professional growth and supervise instructional paraprofessionals as needed.
• Adhere to district policies and professional ethics.
• Perform additional tasks as assigned.
