Reports To: VIC Procedure Supervisor

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:30 AM–5:00 PM (with on-call shifts twice a week and every third weekend)

Position Summary:

The Interventional Technologist II at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital plays a critical role in the Vascular and Interventional Center (VIC). This involves assisting in neuro-interventional, vascular, and interventional radiology (IR) procedures. The technologist operates advanced imaging equipment, ensures patient safety, maintains sterile fields, and supports physicians throughout various procedures, including neuro, IR, and vascular conditions. The role requires expertise in radiological imaging, patient care, and safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Preparation & Care:
   • Prepare and position patients for neuro-interventional, vascular, and IR procedures.
   • Perform focused patient review, including medical history, allergies, and vital signs.
   • Administer contrast agents and medications under physician supervision.
   • Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding and comfort.
2. Imaging & Equipment Operation:
   • Operate advanced imaging systems (fluoroscopy, C-Arm, angiography).
   • Adjust imaging settings to optimize images while minimizing radiation exposure.
   • Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions and ensure proper functioning during procedures.
3. Procedure Assistance:
   • Assist physicians with procedures by providing tools, instruments, and contrast.
   • Maintain sterile fields and follow infection control protocols.
   • Monitor vital signs and assist in emergencies.
   • Support catheter-based procedures, biopsies, stent placements, embolizations, etc.
4. Post-Procedure Care:
   • Monitor patient recovery and provide post-procedural instructions.
   • Address complications or concerns with the medical team.
5. Safety & Compliance:
   • Follow safety guidelines and hospital protocols.
   • Maintain infection control standards.
   • Document procedures and imaging results accurately.
6. Collaboration & Communication:
   • Work with healthcare professionals to ensure coordinated care.
   • Communicate effectively with patients and families.
   • Participate in team meetings to improve patient care.

Qualifications:

• Graduation from an accredited Radiologic Technology program.
• ARRT certification in Radiography; CI/NIR certification preferred or to be obtained.
• Vascular Interventional Radiography (VIR) certification or experience preferred.
• BLS certification; ACLS preferred.
• Minimum 2 years of relevant experience preferred.
• Proficiency with neurovascular and vascular IR imaging equipment.
• Experience with catheter-based interventions preferred.
• Knowledge of neurovascular and vascular anatomy and pathology.
• Strong technical, clinical, and communication skills.
• Ability to work under stress in a fast-paced environment.

Physical Demands:

• Assist in positioning and lifting patients (up to 50 lbs).
• Stand and assist during procedures for extended periods.
• Work with heavy or complex imaging equipment.
